Regrettably not sure yet.....

The Optimill number plate light is a beautifully made thing. It’s the first piece of Optimill gear I’ve bought and the quality is sublime. Even the way the camera cable is routed through the back of it shows real thought in manufacture and it’s super tough (which is ideal given the location of the rear ladder as I’m on my third plastic job due to boot toes breaking them when loading up.

The camera, however, is a piece of cheap Chinese tat and really lets it down. A great shame given the price....the gimbal feature on mine is so loose the camera is all over the place so I’m sending it back (but I do have a decent JVC camera I may try and fit). It’s such a neat solution I’d like to make it work.

I bought a loom from MUD to patch in power from the reverse light (due tomorrow) so will let you know how I get on. In fact MUD bundle the Optimill light, camera and loom and had they stocked it when I ordered mine I would have bought from them.

I’ll make another post once I finally get a day to sort this, the sub and the JVC head unit. Ian

I installed mine today and it was basically plug and play. I used an RCA 'Y' adapter, much as your picture earlier in the thread, to connect the sub leads to the head unit and the ISO adapter lead from MUD and it all just worked, which was nice Very Happy

Just read the spec sheet, such a shame the butttons aren't RGB to allow colour matching to your dash. Unfortunately that's a deal breaker for me Big Cry

Agree completely. Is there an alternative out there with green back lighting?

Thread revival...

I’ve just fitted the JVC unit with the Optimill number plate light set-up and I’m well pleased with it.

As said above, Mud include a piggy back loom and the whole thing just works. Camera design may have improved, mine is a good fit and the picture in daylight is perfect, hopefully it’ll be ok in the dark too.

Doe anyone know if the Optimill camera can rotate around far enough to show the tow bar for hitching up a trailer or is it more designed to show a general field of view behind the vehicle? 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop

Hi Harry

Unfortunately, I don’t think so. I went and took a couple of pics. My camera could angle down a bit more, but I don’t think it will get the tow ball.

Any pics of the screen so we can see the field of vision? I’m thinking of getting the optimil number plate camera setup. Ray

Here you go gents, quite sunny so the picture isn’t the best, but in the cab, it’s a pretty good view. Once this much of the car behind (or low post/wall in the car park) is hidden behind the spare wheel then you’re close enough.

As you can see from the pics above, I have angled my camera to get the blind spot, I would think you’d get a much wider field of view with the lens angled more upwards and straight on-if that makes sense.

Cheers

Any other options out there?! Not a big fan of the JVC unit due to the colour. Not a huge fan of the JLR classic due to the price, but do like how it looks. Save me spending a grand will you?!

How have you got it triggered? just from the reverse light? or do you have the little red wire fed by the reversing light or an ignition live and a switch or both? Im wondering as it appears everybody does not get this message so its either a quality issue of the message from the camera or a triggering issue or jvc have just added the banner at a later firmware date to others. To be honest its very annoying and distracting ..I wonder if folk who dont have this message could comment on how rthwy set ther units up and when?

You might find that much like the guide lines, it's a feature of the camera rather than the head unit. Darren
