Norfolk Police
Driving home from the Mother-in-Laws last Saturday night along the A11 towards Norwich when I became aware of a Police Van coming up fast behind me without blues and twos. The road is a dual carriageway (yep, still a bit of a novelty for us older Norfolk people) and the driver quite skilfully blocked me in against a slower vehicle. My wife said that it was quite obvious, the Officer in the passenger seat was doing a PNC check on my truck. Took a few seconds and once they realised that it hadn't been reported stollen, they accelerated past. I was most impressed with that. Nice to think they are looking out for nicked Defenders.

I remember Swine and Small said that he had been stopped early one morning (can't remember whether that was Norfolk or another force) checking up. Any one else had any positive experiences with your local Police taking an active interest in your truck?

Kind of pointless really, no one will be driving round for long with the correct plates on. If it had been stolen in last few hours then unlikely to be reported stolen.
Does not strike me as good policing. 80" 1948

I think any actions like that are great to be honest Rashers, after all you defender may have only just been stolen and you were quick enough to report it.
Pilgrimmick im not sure why you find that “not good policing” after all if the theft is reported quick enough it may just stop one being broken or dismantled. Maybe things are different where you live and car thieves carry spare plates to swap them very quickly having stolen your defender. 2015 HT XS 90

I am surprised that they didn't pull you over, just to double check who was in the driver seat, they did that with me in my old one. I have not had any tails with this one yet. But the old one I, they seemed to be quiet interested in. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

I got pulled over in my 90 quite late one night near Worcester. They just wanted me to validate the details they had to prove it wasn’t stolen. All good in my view

Well Procta, that has had me puzzled also. We were running towards a convenient lay-by and I wondered why I hadn't been escorted in for a chat. Maybe it was my Black Labrador peering out of the window at them Whistle Don't suppose there are many crooks who take their dog to steal a Defender?

Out of interest Pilgrimmick, what would you want from good policing (with the resources that they have at present)?

If the Police carried out a stop and search policy on every Defender, I think that would be a good time to sell!

I think hanging back and checking the the pnc and leaving you alone would have been good policing, but to box you in and intimidate you is wrong on so many levels.
If you were a criminal, they forewarned you, allowing you to take off across a muddy field etc. If you were innocent then it is intimidation, driving without consideration for other road users etc.
As I said, poor policing. 80" 1948

I have read that one land rover got stolen with the dog inside, which was later dumped sadly. The dog was returned to the owners I believe after a week or so. Still they should have pulled you just to check things out though. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Well when we had 2 gentlemen rake around our farm, attempt to start one of the old series we have lying around they brought 2 dogs...

2nd time in 3 months we've had visitors, we did go a bit OTT with monitored security lately so hopefully should be the end of it.

Three times in 2 miles, middle of a summer night on a stretch of road covered by two Forces, North Yorkshire and Cleveland.
They had cars laid up at each of three roundabouts, linked by back to back radio and I was stopped at each.
Now some may scream harassment all I say is that they were doing the job that they were being paid to do but a little bit of common sense wouldn't have gone a miss by the first relay details of the vehicle to the others but as I have at one time or another trained three out of the six officers I suspect the joke was on me. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

That's got to be someone very local to you, that's doing the sniffing about there. It was two Censored that were very local to me that stole mine. Also where it was found too, which was practically 2 miles away, you could even say around the corner from me. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Yeah thats a bit of a joke like that one, i would have questioned them about that. Ok for been stoppd and checked, so they could radio through.

For some reason, the police are not sniffing around my area, like they were. As i had two tails with the old unit, Both right to my door, by traffic cop cars. The other i did get a tail right out side works enterance where i was pulled over, That was just a small police van. He asked who i was and for my driver licence, he said we are doing a routing check on these, due to the theft. So i am not sure if they had put a marker out on mine, to be checked, when next spotted, i dont know. But i am glad they did. I would be pleased again for them to pull me again. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
