Did a few BAMA rallies in my day, they were great fun. You need a map board and sort out your lighting . 80" 1948

Great way of enjoying motorsport and improving your map skills. Love the old scatter. Bama events are a top way of getting into them. Cheers

Loved the BAMA (previously BAMFA, Army, Airforce, Navy, Police and Prison service).
Marshalled for 10 years and competed for two Sometimes other exercises happened at the same time which was fun. Click image to enlarge Lasting memories - Getting a rollicking at Deepcut Barracks for turning up at the NAAFI covered in mud - until the Sergeant Major realised I was not a squaddie One of the lads removing a track rod from one of the all white rally 90's to replace someone else's whilst the officer in charge was giving the crews a verbal about nicking equipment off of other teams trucks Us as marshals being taken to a nearby pub by the officers at Thetford Camp as a Sainsbury van full of alcohol arrived for the team crews. Listening to a navigator shouting 'left. left' as the driver clipped the back bumperette of my 110 at the time - they were mortified. Manning an overnight check point over night in the freezing cold and only seeing three cars out of 60 then finding out that a Wolf had gone over at the camp exit and everyone behind decided to take the penalties and stay in the camp. My transfer box going bang over night on the hill near the Charlton Cat (Salisbury Plain) with five wolfs behind And finally why was it when I had time for a wazz that would be the que for a navy womens crew to arrive....honestly it was cold that day |

The map was clipped on a board and the map light was in ‘red mode’ though the board is cardboard |

Strangely I had heard about a BAMA some time back, but completely forgot all about them, good to hear a lot have done them.

Map boards should be cardboard, cover them In gaffer tape to make them damp proof, but will not cause injury in a crash. add clips for pens stop watch etc as required. 80" 1948

As a marshal at the time when the Wolfs started to appear I quickly learned to sign the navigators score sheet, grab the bribe of sweets and crisps then step back bloody sharpish before the side mounted spare wheel took my nose off

Road master always seemed to be a good event. Not done any bama for 10 or so years now. We used to travel back from Germany for them! Cheers

Never done this in a vehicle - sounds like a whole lot of fun!
My "hillwalking" qualification requires me to night nav to within 5 metres of a squiggle on a contour line on a featureless hillside..... doing that in a 90 or anything else sounds mental! I am in the 90 with the rollcage Bramley ammunition dump is a really cool place to compete. One time there was a squad out on another exercise not using SA80's with another group wearing bedsheets...... |
