Since the new one is as far removed from the old in all but name as an RR or Disco, I am hoping that Martin creates an entirely separate forum for those who buy one. That way those of us who admire, respect, and appreciate the classic one won't have to read the views of those who never should have bought one in the first place! "Lack of adaptability", huh? Let me see, did I just imagine all the campers, snow plows, recovery trucks, amphibians, cherry pickers, gun platforms, grass cutters, air portables, golf ball launchers, cranes, crop sprayers, welders, fire appliances, plant greasers, semitrailer tractors, ambulances, mountain rescue vehicles, aid vehicles, drilling rigs, and vehicles equipped for spraying locusts? The lack of adaptabilitu couldn't be more obvious. |

I think separate forums would be a good idea. |

Yes, it would seem that Gerry and his merry persons (to be politically correct) are hell bent on destroying lineage. |

yes let’s hope Martin does set up a new forum for the new defender, so those who are not stuck in the
past can have a decent chat without the incessant whinging and moaning from the luddites that frequent the Defender 2020 sub forum yet another pommie bar steward down under MY20 110 P400 SE Defender MY10 3.0 RR Sport |

Here's a tip for you, learn how to use the quote facility and you won't "misremember" the point you are challenging.
when what was actually said was that "rounded edges and curves wasted space that could not be packed with boxes, flat timber, etc". |

So when asked about the new Defender the JLR bloke states: "has all the technology of the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Discovery but it's higher off the ground, it has larger wheels and tyres and it has a more sophisticated traction control system". So it's basically a lifted RRS, on new boots with a few lines of code changed in the software? That's what he said! |

I just asked myself what kind of questions could arise owning a new 2020 Defender and how the two generations would live together in a forum... .... for those who may want to laugh a little may also continue reading ... and I remembered a post I got whatsapped some time ago A collection of typical questions from other forums: Lamborghini Forum: Wind noise at over 350 km / h, I don't know what to do next who can help? Ferrari Forum: Above 12000 rpm it is quite loud inside! Audi A8 Forum: Where can i get my Rolex repaired? Volvo 850 forum: Timing belt failed at 400,000km, warranty claim? Vauxhall forum: I can't sleep at night, my Vauxhall is rusting so loudly. Mercedes C-Class forum: My Mercedes got wet fetching fresh bread last Sunday - what should I do? MX-5 Forum: A maniac drove over my car in his Defender. Landrover Defender Forum: I’ve got a bent MX-5 stuck under my Defender, suggestions on removing it? Renault Forum: Sell monthly bus & tram discount pass - Car earlier back than expected from the workshop. Bentley Forum: I have used the ashtray today. How do I replace it? Porsche Cayenne Forum: Fuel consumption over 5mpg. I assume engine damage? Smart Forum: Swapped to lawn mower engine, Finally more performance! VW Bora Forum: I'm off! Everyone thinks it's a Golf with a backpack. Viper forum: Smart in the intake system! How can I get it out? Hummer forum: My bumper got bent today. 24 injured, 10 dead. Do I need to buy the black paint from a dealer? The next one is 25 miles away. That’s 70 quid in fuel! Honda Civic CRX forum: The neighbor’s dog sleeps in my exhaust pipe, can I start anyway? PLEASE DON'T QUOTE ME ON THIS ONE. IT'S A ..... JOKE "Don't drink and drive. You might spill your drink." |

I wouldn’t want separate forums. Creating the disco5 forum was the worst thing to happen over in the disco3.co.uk forum community in my view.
Works fine on the Range Rover forum. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE RR MY23 HSE PHEV D5 MY19 HSE - Now Sold D4 MY16 HSE Luxury - Now Sold D4 MY12 HSE - Gone D3 MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten |

I agree RDR. It is always best when we get the chance to learn from each other.
For some the negativity is based on speculation and not fact hence I am happy to wait for real world reviews and not for company massage PR stunts. Our current Defenders are never going to let us down, but, and the big but is what will our local councils do in the future in terms of vehicle use. For some they will be forced to sell their vehicles or pay a hefty amount (think London LEZ zone), which then the decision will have to be made - pay a shed load or buy new or nearly new, or give up LR ownership. I have kept a spare LR Experience voucher just for the New Defender, I have seen the pre production version but I want to drive it, I want to see how others are using it, is the 110 back end too short in the real world, will the 90 with the rear seats just be too annoying to get people in the back and then having no space for luggage / shopping - questions questions questions. I terms of using the vehicle off road Ronny Dahl makes some interesting comments in regards to Discovery 4 wheel / tyre sizes (which I think LR have made the biggest mistake). Cheers |

In what way is the new Defender uniquely a Defender replacement? In years gone by a Discovery had its unique place, same as the Range Rover and then of course, the Defender. I’m just struggling to see how the current crop of LR products genuinely separate themselves. Take the badges off the classic Defender and those not passionate about cars would tell you what it is. In my simple mind, the new Defender neither differentiates itself enough from the current offerings or is similar enough to the model it replaces. If it was called something else, people would still hold the same views, both positive and negative. I don’t hold any judgement for those who like it. You pays your money and take your choice and I sincerely hope it provides everything you hoped for. But for me, it lacks the spiritual essence of a Defender. And therefor, the unique spirit for those that own and cherish them. For that reason, it should be a separate forum.

Assuming Martin is not making enough coin on all the forums he runs already (rrsport, d3, etc etc),
i believe it requires Martins input on whether a separate forum would be viable, and at what point. There is unlikely to be the number of owners of the MY20 Defender for at least 9-12 months, so would it be viable ?? Anyhow who does not enjoy the banter yet another pommie bar steward down under MY20 110 P400 SE Defender MY10 3.0 RR Sport |
