Agree on the choice of the wheels, but the D4, RR Sport can be sorted with some after market 18" wheels from the likes of Compomotive if you want alloys, or Tuff Ant if you are happy with Steels. A pity LR do not let you option this up rather than taking the factory only variants, as i am likely to change the P400 wheels to 18" when they become available from either manufacturer. yet another pommie bar steward down under MY20 110 P400 SE Defender MY10 3.0 RR Sport |

Not sure about not giving it "a fair go" as you say. These same people were hopeful before it was released, although some may have had qualms. Now it has been released, we have all seen the photos and some of us have taken the time and effort to go and view it in person. That's about all one usually does before knowing that the product is not for you. Yes there's a test drive, but these vehicles are measured against a yardstick that is so much more than could be swayed by a magical test drive up and down a major dual carriageway (for us in the UK). The three so~called pillars of the Land Rover brand have become homogeneous. You also have to remember that these people have been the individuals stumping up their hard earned cash to support the product and largely responsible for carrying the brand's qualities in the latter years of production when JLR did nothing really positive but was happy to parasitically ride the wave of this enthusiasm and profiteer with it's own binged up examples. They have, quite literally, earnt the right to be vocal on the new product.

If there was a pole on a separate forum I would like it run across all martins sites.
The new defender has the potential to bring so many of us together to make a great community. I personally wouldn’t want to see the first generation defender owners not a part of that you all have a lot to contribute. My position is this: I have no doubts that the new thing will be a great vehicle, will sell in huge numbers, and be a commercial success. It will win awards, go on expeditions with people with names like Kenton Kool, but most will never leave tarmac. However it is not in the tiniest degree a successor to the Series Land-Rover or the Landrover Defender, and I have no interest in it as a consequence. If I wanted to read about D4 or D5, RRS, Velar, or even XC90 or X3 vehicles, then I would seek out a forum for them, and would no more expect to find them featuring here than on a tractor forum. The new vehicle has nothing in common with the old but the name, which personally I deplore although I get that it makes commercial sense and was inevitable. The vehicle itself has however become just another expensive undistinguished SUV doomed in the main to be little more than a delivery system for schoolchildren of affluent parents, and as such my personal view is that it has no relevance here. |

Think of those “poor” men whose wives don’t accept a Defender in the household
My wife was not happy at all with my purchase in the beginning - going from a Citroën C5 with the super comfortable ride to “this thing” - but fortunately Jimy grew on her Defenders are contageous, aren’t they 
If Defender 2020 owners want to be part of this community even if they have the “wrong” one, maybe they’ll consider buying an old Defender as a valuable addition to their garage if they feel welcome in the community here. "Don't drink and drive. You might spill your drink." |

Personally I think the new vehicle should have it's own forum, as it is no more relevant to the old Defender than a G Wagen or a Wrangler. I do wonder though, if it doesn't sell well, will they go back to the drawing board and come up with a proper replacement? It is no secret I do not like it, but hey, the facelift is knocking on the door in just 3-4 years from now. And if they screw it (again) in another 3-4 years we will be enjoing the newer new defender. Defender 110 SW MY2011 2.4tdci decat, no EGR

...pretender is something designed on such way that is already seen in similar form of Mini Countryman and various Kia incarnations...i hoped i could use as an example series or defender line, instead Kia Soul or Countryman, and so on...i personally think that this thing will not be a financial success for JLR for various reasons, but mainly bizarre price and over complicated piece of equipment...after all, JLR seems to be good in making losses and not really paying attention to user base..all series/defenders were of similar design, with strong assemblance between generations and all of them were without exception one and only thing...utility machine....this pretender pile of garbage, with 'ultimate chassis strength' of VW Beetle is not even remotely a utility vehicle...so what is the damn lineage with series/defenders JLR and fanboys moaning about, is beyond mystery to me...

Originally it was 50,000 per annum; then it went up to 100,000. The plant in Slovakia has an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles a year but I think there's space for expansion. |
