This is a pic of the rear of my 110 loaded with furniture almost to the roof.  Click image to enlarge And my 90. Click image to enlarge I'm sorry if it is "absurd" to use Defenders in this way, but I thought that Defenders were supposed to be used like this.

I’ve seen the 90 commercial in the flesh and it looks the business. Is it a true commercial?... 1 ton load vat reclaimable and able to be run through the books as a working tool?... Or just a stripped out 90 that you'll see on a building site as the boss won't get hammered on the BIK?... Jus the two are completely different animals... If it's the former then LR are keeping it very very quiet... The details on it were sketchy as it’s still classed as a concept car. I couldn’t get a good look in it as the windows were heavily tinted.
I believe it will be classed as a proper commercial vehicle though. |

I'm another one who does - dirty, wet boat paraphernalia most times - reason why I didn't "upgrade" to a Freeloader (Discovery Sport) or whatever with a fancy interior. I'm certainly not gonna ruin the interior of a Defender costing up to eighty grand; whether or not a basic suspension stripped-out "commercial" version comes out cheap enough to be used as a truck remains to be seen. Paddy Hopkirk also did it better in the 1960s! What I would like to see is it tackling the Rubicon Trail, without taking the bypasses. How does it handle some technical rock crawling? Seeing as it was tested in Moab Utah, let's see some footage of the difficult trails. Not just the scenic shots of Hell's Revenge with the mountains in the background, how about Hell's Gate or the Escalator? It's the most capable Landrover ever, prove it, then I'll decide if it's worth price tag. |

Thinking about it again JLR are giving the wrong image, the target market might think that it is the vehicle to drive like that down a byway or a farm track. The recent LRO article (written version of the video at the same place) only tells you that speed in king - not responsible driving for the conditions, environment or other trail users. I would rather see precision driving as you mentioned on the Rubicon Trail, something that truly shows this as an overlanding vehicle and worthy of the Defender name. JLR dealerships are as bad when you go for a test drive, they just want to take you onto the nearest main road so they can impress you when it gets to 70mph, (it would if it was a Series 1  )

The defender pictured has a few bed side tables in it, and a table, not sure what you are trying to prove there? In my earlier post I was trying to make reference to A post stating the fact that planks of wood couldn’t be stacked all the way to the roof In a new one ? Neither could boxes be stacked up either ?
I’ve never stacked wood or boxes all the way to the roof, apparently though because of the rear door aperture On the new one and the corners being rounded this makes loading impossible ? As I’ve said before my land rovers are of the past are worlds apart from the ones that you guys own, mine had a small door to the rear load space and mine obviously a prototype Had wheel boxes to the sides making stacking boxes a real pain. None of you must have had the displeasure of owning the same one I had in either 90, 110 or 130 HCPU, Because mine were  ! I’ve tried to get along with Defenders, having worked extensively on the MOD Defender and Wolf in various guises on multiple platforms incorporating all manner of Engines, suspension set ups, weapons mounts for every theatre, the resounding factor in every application was the exact same outcome, and it wasn’t side boards and dressing tables we were carrying !
Needless to say as time moved on the Defender was all but gone and hated for its lack of Adaptability, of course like most die hard enthusiasts I put My faith in a 90 CSW which had the newer flip down seats, again mine had the seat boxes hampering space in the load area cleverly disguised by two whacking great big seats that as you might imagine prevented planks of wood, boxes, bed side cabinets and coffee tables being transported about the country. That part was afforded some degree of forgiveness as my son had a proper forward facing seat in the back to fit in, what I couldn’t forgive was the fact that I’d waited years for it to snow and when the bad weather came a decade ago in 2009 my defender decided to throw a fit and need its wiring harness replacing, as well as the transfer box, and then the gear box ! I’ve tried to embrace the love for the old one but after a brief drive last week from the Scottish Borders to N Yorks I realised why I hated the thing so much, I’m obviously in the minority of one where by I hate the damn thing, A bit like going out and buying a 40 year old mini, not sure why because it’s small, I cant get in and out of it and it’s a death trap, but just because every one else loves theirs so much and can fit a weekly shop for 1 in the boot I should love it too.... Hopefully the new one will get its own sub forum where owners can all go go and be mocked for buying something they want, that they can fit in and drive without banging their elbows and knees on a cramped interior Whilst not being able to hear the passenger sat 3cm away.
