Says something when the locals at the sandpit would rather put a burka on it and not a 50 caliber machine gun.
I honestly thought that this was going to steal the show instead it looks like the designers stole the drawing off a five year old. If anything (watching the live TFL Car channel on YouTube) it looks like all the other manufacturers, apart from Land Rover) have caught up with Tesla and pitching at what the public wants, normal looking EV cars. Tesla and LR really dropped a dookie, Tesla a vision and hype too far and LR for being behind on technology. |

Bulletproof? Oops.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

I like it. It’s brutalist and ugly in a beautiful way. Functional and utilitarian with great capabilities and at a decent price point. Reminds me of another product that Land Rover used to make... let your eyes rest on it for a while, you will grow to it. I like it enough that I think I’ll jump on the reservation queue. Unfortunately I also think this will kill Bollinger, which is at a price point that no longer is close to being competitive. Hell, given the choice between the Cybertruck and the new Defender (same prices) I don’t see how I would end up with a Defender.

Here in Holland we have subsidized workplaces for the mentally impaired, is Teslas financial situation so dire that they need the financial support and hence they're running their design studio with only blind people?
And 0-60 in 2.8s, why on earth...? Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000 |

Musk is claiming 146,000 orders received in the first couple of days.
If true that is very impressive, even taking into account you only need $100 deposit. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/201...teel-balls Tesla v F150 Tesla v 911 Tesla v steel ball...whoops! WARNING. This post may contain sarcasm. |

With a 500km range for the 4WD version, an approx $70kAUD price tag if the exchange rate holds, and a towing capacity of 4500kgs it ticks most of the boxes I need. I can alway tow the Defender on a trailer & swap vehicles if the batteries go flat! But seriously I have put my deposit down. 1955 Series 1 107" Pick up.

Another deposit here.
Such a shame the Defender has been delivered on an antiquated platform that can’t handle a full BEV. Old before it was born. 1951 80" S1 2.0 1995 110 300TDI 1995 90 300TDI |

Looking at the pics of it vs an F150, it looks slightly bigger than the F150.
That makes it uncomfortably big for British minor roads - I would say a Ranger is as big as you want to go before driving lanes for anything other than commercial purposes is going to be awkward/embarrassing. You're not going to fit in a Tesco car park. Same concern with the Bollinger & Rivian - no surprise as they are aiming at the NA F150 market. I'm looking forward to Euro-sized derivatives. |

Wondering how heavily it's design leans on this earlier iteration of the form from 2016:
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge "The United Nude Lo Res Car is part of the United Nude Lo Res Project, which started several years ago and has become an important signature of the brand. The Lo Res design method is based on the principle of re-designing the same object in a series, each time lowering the 3D resolution, resulting in a more fragmented and abstract design each step of the way. The Lo Res car shape came from lowering the 3D resolution of the iconic Lamborghini Countach, a Marcello Gandini (at Bertone) design from the early seventies. The Lo Res car is a conceptual design experiment, rather than a conventional car. Its abstract appearance makes it look like a moving sculpture." https://www.unitednude.com/news-page/Lo-Res-Car |
