Its an excellent security device...... my only problem is I bought a Momo Steering Wheel Quark 350 (14") and as I am tall I can no longer see the indicator lights or main beam light!!!
The momo steering wheel though does look the part and is very nice! Regards Rob |

Concur with all the above, great piece of kit, I also bought a Momo steering wheel with it - the smaller diameter steering wheel is welcome. Yes fitting the spinning BoS cover can be fiddly but now I have seen Sulisuli’s simple mod to assist with locating the pins I will do the same. I have this and its a great set up. I also have the Momo Jet steering wheel. I would prefer to have something more similar to the original wheel, but there does not appear to be anything on the market.
Someone recently asked this same question on a facebook group. Someone responded that they had been able to break the Optimil lock set into the Orange security device. Having done this, they say they reported this to Optimil and they are redesigning the lock that is fitted - how true any of this is I do not know. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond..... |

I reported to Optimill (a long time ago now) that there was a way the original cylinder lock could be opened without a key as quickly as with one, without causing any damage. Optimill, not being locksmiths, were quite taken aback by this but immediately took the matter up with their lock supplier with the eventual result that a much better lock is now fitted. Neither I nor Optimill has ever publicly disclosed the vulnerability, and I do not intend to, since there are plenty of the old type in use. It is however a feature of the lock and nothing to do with Optmill's design. No lock is invulnerable and there are other ways that even the new ones can be overcome, but none as quick, silent, and non-destructive as the first vulnerability. So that much is true, but it is old news and history, and I have never been near a Facebook group and certainly would never use one (I have an irrational hatred of Facebook, Twitter, etc, and all they represent). If someone is genuinely reporting this on a Facebook group then they're either trying to take credit for someone else's actions or are have "discovered" something that's been know for a long time! I won't depress you by highlighting all the other Defender-related lock vulnerabilities that exist, except to say that none of the locks JLR used are any good, and few aftermarket security device locks are much better. Fortunately most villains have neither the time nor the skill to defeat them, but who needs to anyway when cordless drills and angle-grinders make the skill irrelevant. |

Not sure why Sulisuli think i’m taking the pi55 by asking for advice but thanks everyone. Any views on flat v dished steering wheels and whether a dished wheel feels too far away from the indicators etc. |

The old lock was changed at the end of last year and Optimill were changing any existing swivel locks to the new mechanism as requested. I know this as my original lock was faulty and was exchanged for free.
To the original OP I personally think this is a great security feature and is quick and simple to use - it may not be fool proof but security is about layers, the more the merrier and for me if I have one that takes no time to fit/remove then I know I have no excuse not to use it. |

Anyone roaming around the various threads generally reading up
about a Quick Release Steering Wheel Boss and wondering if it's either worth the money / the effort to change / the security benefit... or all of the above, please read on. I would recommend that you get your hands on a good example and then just find a reason that makes sense to you to fit this to your Defender. I have a good friend who has the Optimill offering + lockable 'cap' all doing its best to secure a Twisted 110 that you really wouldn't want to loose... it's an excellent bit of kit and I would not hesitate to fit one if starting again. I have the Snap-Off Boss which was fitted during my first week of ownership, so coming up to 5 years now, 40K miles later, No play what so ever, probably 2-3 seconds to remove the steering wheel and store or to reengaged... FANTASTIC... For me, one of many layers overall, but it's right up there in my top 3 of would not be without security layers / products, and definitely my top visual + mechanical layer. I genuinely don't understand why I don't see more Quick Release Steering Wheels fitted to Defenders... One of the 1st upgrades I did to my replacement defender and I haven't looked back at all. I have even seen another defender parked up with one too, so that just says it all now.
