Do a quick google and you’ll find the majority of things to look for, but researching breeders is key and don’t be afraid to travel for the right dog. You don’t necessarily need a load of FTch in the lineage if you can get to meet and see the parents working you’ll get a feel for the quality of dog. They get a bit of a reputation of being constantly on but I can’t say I’ve seen any truth in it; give them some mental stimulation, keep them fit and they are no bother. My current has a 3 position switch; relaxed in the house and at work, focused and energetic on the pheasants, crackers for farmyard pigeons!! His coat is like a sponge as well, only has to look at water and he is sodden!

Heres mine. Both boys. Despite being workers, they are spoilt house dogs. Love the outside, but just as happy at home. Love swimming, be that in a river, pond or the sea

I’ve got a shooting mate who’s an oracle on cockers - he would gladly give you some tips.
I can ask him if you like - I’ll be seeing him on the 23rd. |

Lovely dogs. Bit squeaky at times on a peg.
Friends between them have a dozen or so...and to a dog.... they are all fidget arses! Never sit still or do that hover bum thing. Ha ha! Douglas (Labrador owner) |
