Optimill QR steering boss - advice please!
I’ve already read through lots of previous posts about the Optimill QR steering boss. Everyone’s comments seem very favourable. Has anyone got anything bad to say about the Optimill quick release steering boss or would recommend an alternative make over it? Also, can I ask about flat v dished steering wheels... does a dished wheel mean the indicators end up too far away from your hands? I’m thinking of combining the Optimill QR boss with a Moto-Lita steering wheel. If anyone has any comments or advice, I would really appreciate replies. Thanks

I’m perplexed all the comments you have read seem very favourable you state, but your asking people if they have anything bad to say, if one person make a negative comment will that dissuade you from buying one? Or am I missing something here.

Oh and just for the record I have one and the orange spinning top and I am very impressed with it, brilliant pieces of extremely well engineered kit. 2015 HT XS 90

I think that somewhere in my 'tinkering' thread (linked in my sig) I have pics of my Optimill boss and an old BMW wheel which I got on ebay. I don't know if it's dished or not.

On my old waggon, I felt a new, modern wheel would look properly out of place, so an older wheel suits my view of the car.

I don't think I have massive hands, or long fingers, but reaching the controls is no problem.

The only tiny niggle I have with the boss ( as others have found) is that the larger pin retractors ( sorry, can't think of any better way to describe them ) are not anodised black, so do tend to reflect or shine on the inside of the windscreen.

I think LandRoverAnorak (on here) sprayed his. I used permanent marker! But apart from that, no worries whatsoever - a good well made product. Donald

It rather depends what they wrote and whether their experience/view was a one off or shared by others... which is why I am asking.

Thanks for your post donmacn - other people have reported the same issue but it sounds as though there’s an easy fix. Good to know you all rate this product.

One of the best security layers you can fit to be honest, best when fitted with this too.

I got the tip of drilling the back to make lining up for ease of fitment from another forum member.

Just bear in mind you will need to notify your insurance company if you fit this or any other accessories to your Defender. 2015 HT XS 90

As your trying to line the pins up to locate the spinning top in place, the drilling allows you to place a finger on the drilled hole to help locate the captive hole for the pin to go into Thumbs Up 2015 HT XS 90

Totally agree with Sulisuli. I have Optimill QR boss and swivel lock along with Momo Jet. Excellent quality and definitely no complaints whatsoever.
