Stumbled across this thread and my issue was resolved regardless. The importance of having a tracker fitted cannot be emphasised enough. Indeed with my latest purchase a tracker was required before I could even obtain insurance. Eric the Defender ownership had run it's course as the need and desire was no longer there and the experience soured after two attempted thefts. I needed to be able to sleep at night. I am enjoying my return to motorcycling that much I am looking at the possibility of a stablemate to the Harley-Davidson namely a new Norton 961. I have also stumbled across a couple of Defender owners from this forum elsewhere in the Harley-Davidson World. It seems due to the long heritage, style, massive after-market part availability and following Harley-Davidson ownership isn't that far away from owning a Defender. Hey Mal, long time no hear, but good to see all is well with you. From this side, nothing really new, the SVX keeps going strong, just now and then minor things to take care of like a popped off turbo to inter cooler pipe (three months ago), a new clutch (two months ago), a new EGR (yesterday), but other than that she is her perfect self.
It sounds like you have no real desire to come back to Defender Land, a pity, but happy motoring anyway. Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Thanks Eric,
Believe it or not I am acutely interested in the forthcoming advancements in EV. We have two Nissan Leafs at my work and the torque is absolutely amazing but the aesthetics of the vehicles leave a lot to desire. Whilst I poured scorn on those members on here that rushed out to place a speculative and wasted deposit on the DC100 that never was I am interested in the Harley-Davidson Livewire Project. Battery technology is getting there but still has a way to go. As to the argument about carbon footprint etc. of batteries over fuel it does not phase or bother me in the slightest. After all if I was that worried about it now I wouldn't have driven a catless and EGR shut programmed Land Rover or a 1.8 litre v-twin (also catless) Stage II tuned that struggles to meet emissions. Have a look at the link below. Thank you for your sentiments Eric. Have a Happy Festive Season and prosperous New Year. Just popped back for austerity to see what's been going on. See a lot of the stalwarts are still about and that's a good thing in my book. I miss the forum and the people on it but as above decided after a couple of attempts of theft and a rekindled interest in motorcycling to leave the Defender World and spend my money elsewhere. Drove SWMBO absolutely mad having spent an inordinate amount of money on a Harley-Davidson 18 months later to take an angle grinder to it to 'make it my own!' Ring any bells? I had "It's the bloody Land Rover all over again!" Above is still a standard picture below was my end result.
Work in progress on my driveway. Click image to enlarge End Result. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge To cap it all whilst one bike cannot possibly tick all my boxes I've just ordered one of these as a stablemate for the above. Click image to enlarge To ALL Defender2.net members old and new I wish you all the very best. Wonder if Caterham's still on his 'very last issue?' If you're still about Caterham no offence meant or implied but on reflection I probably miss your posts the most on any forum I have been active on. Take care and drive safe everyone! Nice to see you again old chap and glad to see you are keeping out of mischief. I'm a stranger here myself these days too as my last Defender went a while ago. End of an era, never mind onwards and upwards Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

Ha ha! Happy Steve and Mk1 Ray thank you both. I'm still using the Dynamic Balancing Beads I stumbled across in Defenderworld but instead of 8 ounces in each tyre I'm now down to 3 on the bikes. My Land Rover tyres were wider still at 305s than the Harley at 260 but the BFG KM2s were less than half the price. There is indeed life after Defender but I do still miss it at times. I have nonetheless found that the replacement is akin to a Land Rover Defender a 'warts 'n' all type iconic vehicle with a long heritage and avid following. At least being a motorcycle there aren't any worries about water getting in and wet carpets but Harleys too have their foibles believe you me.
Russtybox emigrated to Australia and took his Landy with him but I still see him on the odd rare occasion when he returns to visit family. Thanks for taking time to respond! Hey Mal, good to hear you are alive and kicking. Think you should consider buying another cube and come back here in earnest. After all, without you, how could we ever have serious discussions about things like those “pig ugly warts” I still have under my front bumper?

Further update. Just popped back in to glean some information on plug in tuning boxes and how crap they are. Nice to see some old names still kicking about. Still missing the Defender some times when the weather is rubbish but riding the hell out of my bikes to get the most before I go in next week for a total left knee replacement. Goal is to be back on the bikes by February, March at the very latest. At the stage where I've got more biking years behind me than in front. Who knows may end up heading back to four wheels in earnest rather than two? Know it's a bit early but I wish you all the very best and hope Santa brings you all your goodies for your Defenders. Take care all and keep shiny side up!

Thank you L110CDL,
The new Defender does captivate my interest slightly nevertheless buying any vehicle in it’s first generation can bring unwanted gremlins. I also think the death bell is beginning to toll louder for diesel powered vehicles along with high powered air cooled engines such as the Harley has! Euro V also looms next year which will finish off many current older models of vehicles in current production as they will not want to invest huge sums of money redesigning the wheel metaphorically speaking to get them to meet the new legislation. Interesting but perhaps frustrating times ahead. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Agree with you there that you have to wait a few years before they sort out all the problems and hopefully they do 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.
