I just had a rattle with the owner. He caught the person who 'may' have stolen it trying to rub out the sign writing. I say 'may' have as the police are just going to prosecute for receiving stolen goods as there is no proof he stole it, however he doesn't have a receipt or any paperwork / log book etc. Just a nonsense. The most bizarre (to my simple mind) part about it, is that the chap caught with it had a full set of keys for the doors, ignition and fuel cap, and yet none of the locks had been changed and the owner had the only two (original) sets with him. The vehicle was driven away when stolen, so now the owner is concerned the keys get passed on and someone else comes back for it. Oddly though nothing was taken from it, there was sheep medicine (niche I grant you), penknives, new car battery and other kit untouched.
Keep yours safe |

Good to hear he got it back in one piece and the police done a job, see so many posts of stolen vehicles that never return!
I'm sure word will get about who was in possession of this whether he stole it or not is sure to be aware it was stolen!! Strange one with with the keys hopefully the police follow up and maybe find out more about what's been going on |

Strange with keys. Are you suggesting the keys were copied, originals returned, then Defender stolen? I'd be wondering who had access, garage...? James

No, the original keys never went anywhere, I just don’t understand how a full set could be created without the originals.

Sounds like that's had the keys duplicated or something like, and stolen to order. I would get those changed straight away if I were him re double security too. Also give the who was rubbing the sign writing a bit of a working over too, just for touching it. What gets me is Were they planning on getting it out the country etc? I know some local faggot was selling stolen defenders with geniune IDs, so it makes wonder where the motors are for those IDs that are geniune. Shipped abroad i guess? I just wondered whether he'd left the Defender at a garage for a service, or a car wash, who had then copied the set before the owner returned? James

Yes, makes sense but it’s never been washed and he serviced it himself. A mystery.

Just a point of note that certain vehicles have no difference between keys if you understand
Lots of plant & agricultural vehicles share the same key, we lost a set in concrete, and had another guy from another site roll up with another identical set. Wouldn’t be surprised in poverty spec defenders are the same. Maybe, just maybe they knocked the locks, installed new ones that were identical key patterns? Worth having a look if the lock is new or not. Otherwise would put it down to cloning.
