Which rear awning
So was out in the Diffy today and it was raining cats and dogs.
Thought it would have been useful to have a rear awning so I was protected when rummaging for stuff in the back of the vehicle.

I have Flatdog roof bars to which it will need to attach.

Any recommendations for a decent rear awning which won't require me to sell off a kidney?

I quite like the idea of an aluminium casing rather than a PVC sleeve for containing the awning when not in use

a bt technicians umbrella which has a short leading edge that would butt up to the roof above the door.

not quite what you asked for but a possible solution. Cheers

hmmm....I've seen someone here has used a garden umbrella, but I don't even know what a BT technicians umbrella is - is it just "an umbrella"?

like a golfing umbrella but has short arms on a 180 face so butts up to a wall, or or in this case. Cheers

When it rains BT tech's van up not like the old days of putting up a tent. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

I think an awning would be a more elegant solution.

I've given up on alu casing as this seems to be only available on longer lengths from the likes of Fiamma.

Now a toss up between

Howling Moon Safari Awn 1.4m
Front Runner 1.4m
Arb 1.215M

Any views on the above?

I'm looking for the same thing to keep me dry when the rear door is open. So far I've looked at cheapo canopies from ebay like this:-
https://tinyurl.com/y3yu9wkm

Fishing umbrellas with a curtain, which have a handle long enough to clear the opening - best to Google as there are so many.

Or a large Senz (Dutch) wind resistant umbrella which has the front cut off, a bit like the BT umbrella. These are readilly available in the UK. 2015 90 XS Station Wagon Puma 2.2

I have a Hannibal rear awning 1.4m square - bought of eBay so not too expensive
Self supporting and gives enough shelter to the back for rummaging or boiling a kettle - the back door acts as a side shelter when open

Looks good boode. I pulled the trigger on a Howling Moon Safari-Awn - 1.4M wide by 1.8M long. Has legs but is easy to take off the vehicle by just sliding off the rail.

Missed this, so a wee bit late to the party. I have a Howling Moon 1.4 which I used over the back door - found it quite useful. Be aware that the legs and supports come apart on the 1.4 (and are stowed separately) as they are too long to slide into the fitted tubes. This makes it a bit more difficult to put up, but not much. Also, the mounting beam and awning bag are quite long so they will stick out a bit. I trimmed the beam down on mine and 'squeezed' the bag into the remaining space to make it a touch narrower. No drama and still easy to slide off when you don't want it fitted.

Mine is up for sale (complete with side walls) along with its 2.1m big brother although Gary (Wyvern) has 1st dibs.

Have moved up to a 270 degree ShadowAwn from Alu-Cab which is the only reason I'm parting with them.
