No it won't show as a fault code, it's a purely electrical on/off problem. You might get some spurious codes due to things shutting down when.
You don't need to change the whole barrel and keys, just the switch on the far end of the key barrel/column lock - part number LR039638 Can you let me know what you mean about the dash lights above? 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Where abouts in Suffolk are you? I might be able suggest a few garages.
Any AS10/ECU electrical issues I'd speak with Dan Padmore at Pace Automotive, Peterborough. However, I noticed on FB that he's on holiday at the moment. Are you getting NO dash lights (or just the battery light), or is the glow, oil pressure and MIL (and temp gauge) working ok?
Thinking about it again, remove the starter relay, turn the ignition on and bridge the starter relay power terminals with a thick wire. Pull the wire out quickly if it starts!! 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Hi Guys,
I am Bury st Edmund's. The dash light are all normal and as you would expect when trying to start the engine. I have ordered the ignition switch from landrover which should be here tomorrow. Fingers crossed that does something productive |

Thanks very much,
She has already been to MCC and they could not find any fault. Then it went to Mansfield and they could not get it to fault while plugged in. The auto electricians machine was not the right one for the job ( so he said after he invoiced) The lock smith found no fault and did have it fail to start on him. Then got it going and assumed it was fixed. No she is dead as a dead thing |

Tried starting it my way? Key switched to ignition (dash alive) then bridge the starter relay to send power to the starter? 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Not as yet,
So that trun the key and use a jump lead or something to the starter? I used to start old tractor with a screen driver across the starter motor. Not sure if that's similar wlto what you mean ? |

No I didn't mean straight to the starter but at the relay under the seat.
I was trying to see if the feed down to the relay from the starter switch was duff, but your new switch tomorrow should answer that anyway. Just a note when you come to change your switch. Make a note (or take a photo) of where the connectors go as they go individually. Easy to mix up. Pic below for reference: 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Here's another idea.
Before you get into the hassle of removing the old switch, leave it in place and swap the wires onto the new switch and operate it using a screwdriver. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

That sounds interesting. Is that as basic as it sounds ?
There is not much room for my fat hands. I have already started getting anything I can off. Lastly, i dont suppose it matters but when it did start all those month ago when you went off roading the key used to fall out. Or as I found put you could just pull the key out while you were going alone. This would have no effect on the engine. I assume this is just a landy quirk and does not have an impact on it not starting now? Though perhaps the barrel might be worn ( I am clutching at starws i know ) Thanks |
