I've recently gone from 7.50 R16s on standard steel wheels to 235/85/R16s on genuine LR Wolfs, both sets of tyres being Latitude Cross, and the 235's tread and overall width are a little bit wider than the 7.50s. That's measuring them rather than going on a spec sheet incidentally.

So metric tyre sizes still include the wheel diameter in inches? |

Yep. My tyres are 235/85/16 Seems there is no standard width for the 7.50 R16. Some can be slightly wider than others. The height will be the same. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

A 7.50 R 16 tyre expressed in metric terms would be a 190/100 R 16, i.e., 190mm tread width with a 100% aspect ratio. A 265/75 R 16 tyre will be about 3" (75mm) wider and approx 3/8" (10mm) taller than a 7.50 R 16. 265/75 R 16 and 235/85 R 16 are both approx the same diameter (i.e. within about 3/4") as a 7.50 R 16, but are both significantly wider. |

My 235s are a bit wider than the 7.50s but only a bit. In fact I was quite disappointed at the difference when they arrived.
The actual tread is only about 5mm wider although it's perhaps 30mm across the sidewalls. |

Thanks for that. I did not mean to mislead anyone, I just took the info from the Land Rover manual. Whoever thought you could have conversations about tyre sizes? That's another trait that sets us Defender men apart from the rest of humanity. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |
