There's a pump in the tank on 2.2s.

Just turn the key to the start position and you will hear the pump run. Do this a couple of times then you are good to start.

so the same way like the Td5? But on the Td5 I can hear the pump; should I also hear the pump at the Tdci?

Yep, I can hear the pump on mine every time

To prime my old Td5 I used to turn the ignition key but not start engine then pump the accelerator 7-8 times and then the pump started to self prime.

Ok, there is a pump. Did somebody already try to put a empty fuelfilter and let it fill automaticaly. I always fill it with diesel and with the risk ... Philippe current : defender 110 sw 2.2 puma 2012 and 230.000km today and again my Range Rover VM2.5 engine from 1992 and 528.000km today.
