Which 1 piece drive shaft/flange?
I have a 97 300tdi with a salisbury rear axle and I am looking to fit the 1 piece shafts/flanges.

Has anyone fitted the same and if so where did you purchase from etc? Has fitting them solved the clunking and backlash issue? Did they come with replacement bolts/gaskets?

I have tried the search function but having trouble finding a definitive answer.

Thanks

I had mine welded by a certificated welder around 25k miles ago

Together with an Ashcroft output shaft I now have almost no backlash. Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right.

Steve, did you paint the drive flange?

I'm thinking of getting the same but want it black and I'm undecided on what to use.

I didn’t no as I am using boosts I didn’t see any point really and needed parts on ASAP.

Another member here did recently I believe as I saw the pics.
Only a key, mask off the threads.
Etch prime and satin black would be fine and pretty quick too.

In my situation I’m quite happy as they are.
If you had ZU’s or similar on display then yes I would want to paint them to match. Possibly even 2 pack paint match. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Cheers Steve, I knew I'd seen somebody on here paint them but wasn't sure who.

Not sure whether to paint or use a product like Por15, Buzzw etc.

I am not too keen on the 2 piece ones tbh and I would prefer to buy new ones rather than welding my ones.

Would these fit doesn't anyone know?

I am struggling to find the correct ones if they are not right?

Are Salisbury ones different to regular ones? If so, I don't know if they actually exist Confused Darren

If I remember correctly the Salisbury rear axle has 24 spline half shafts, the Rover rear axle is 10 spline.

The only way that I could find to fit one piece half shafts to my old 300tdi 110 (roughly 20 years ago) was to have them welded.

I ran it for 200k miles like that with no problems.

The current Puma was treated to the same mod (with new parts) when the backlash became bad. Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right.

Is it difficult to get them welded or would anyone who is semi competent be able to achieve this?

I am thinking I may have to get replacement 2 piece ones and get the old ones welded for when the replacements get sloppy?

For a proper job you need a skilled welder with the correct kit try to find a blacksmith or fabrication shop.
Anyone who is a semi competent welder (like me) can do a "bush fix" to get you home. Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right.

Or buy HD flanges, which don't get sloppy in the way that the OE ones do. Darren
