More recent axles are all 24 spline (from 300tdi days, IIRC) but I don't know if the half shafts are the same length for the Salisbury axle. Darren

The main thing is that the metal will almost certainly be heat treated to provide it's mechanical properties. Any welding will need to bear this in mind and possibly be redone as simply welding it will make the material softer again. Ed
