Hitch Adapter Plate
I fabricated a receiver hitch plate that will be mounted on the rear cross member. I am having some trouble with the threaded holes in the cross member. The bottom two I believe are M14 and my bolts seem to go in fine. The top 4 I thought were supposed to be M12 but my bolts do not go in at all. M10 seems very loose and on one of the holes the M10 bolt slide right through. Is it possible that the galvanizing added that much material to the threads that an M12 would not even start in the holes?

The four smaller holes are ISO M12 coarse series threads (1.75mm pitch), the two larger ones are ISO M16 coarse series (2mm pitch).

If your chassis is galvanised you will have to "chase" the threads on all the holes before a fastener will fit.

OK - thanks - if that is the case then what I though were M14 threads are actually M16 that are clogged up from galvanizing also! I will get the taps and correct bolts.

Definitely M12 and M16, so yes you need a thread tap or two! ---
