Has anyone said why the 90 is taking longer to come on to the market?
It beggars belief that they have been messing about for years on the replacement for the Defender, and even when they do release it, it's SWB brother won't be available? The Defenders core buyers, Utility Companies and Businesses who needed this type of vehicle have unfortunately flown the nest. I cannot see any of the accountants allowing something as expensive as this to be brought into the fleet when they have Isuzu, Ford, Mitsi L200 doing the job for a lot less money. |

I think it could look a lot worse. Remember the reaction to the slab sided D3, people soon came to like it and I think the same will happen here. Price and complex electronics will put me off buying one as a replacement for Mrs Hs school run Audi.

Without using the exact same word, the same vertical design cues were highlighted during the Disco 3 launch 15 years ago... This car is basically what the D5 should have been - the Defender line was a dead end, because it was mostly unchanged in its last 40 years and fell off the modern design planet - if they'd tinkered and modernised through the last 30 years at regular intervals the jump now would not have been a problem. Price is however now somewhat ridiculus - my 2007 D3 SE had a £40K list price - I'd need to push close to £60K to get the same toys in the New Defender.... Had a bit of fun configuring one (including the petrol v6), put on a few unnecessary but very helpful extras like a shower in the boot for cleaning the dogs etc, but didn’t go crackers for things like big wheels, optional paint etc or interior extras. Got a bit of a shock when I’d finished!!
Now, I don’t mind the look, but can’t stand any of the paint colours. The commercial looks to have more “normal” paintwork options, which would please me more. I work hard and by hook or by crook might be able to afford what I specced, but it simply doesn’t represent value for money. That’s my big problem with it. As great as it might be, it simply isn’t worth the price being asked in my eyes. Click image to enlarge |

I didn’t have leather, more than 122bhp, alloys, electric seats, leather steering wheel, sat nav on our last Defenders, so the D200 on steels is a big step up and has a great basic spec. I would like it to look like a Defender and steels it has to be so:
D200 to be sent to BAS White Black contrast roof Black pack Wheel arch extensions A frame bar Steels to be coated black £47k More spec than an XS Defender bar the part leather but we always have seat covers on anyways. 1951 80" S1 2.0 1995 110 300TDI 1995 90 300TDI |

Exactly. Built pretty loaded one quickly online and came to $82000 US. that’s 20000 grand more than I hoped and 10 more than I expected. I knew a fully decked out model I’d love would probably be out of the upper limit of my budget anyway, but I was thinking maybe I could justify the cost for a lower spec. Nope not even. Values not there at any level. For the low spec price, there are better vehicles that include high end features. Will wait and see how reliability plays out and look for reasonably priced CPO vehicle. Need to check price difference on 4 and 6 engine. I speced a 6, maybe the 4 would make it more affordable. |

I’m saddened by the new defender. I knew it would never be what I wanted it to be, or probably what most of us wanted (basically the same as the old one with a few updates).
To me it looks like an enlarged Kia Soul crossed with a Freelander, I think it’s the front grille. I don’t think there are enough nods to the proper Defender. It’s no longer what it was intended as when it was conceived, it’s sadly just become another Chelsea tractor. |

In asking that question, I'm guessing you already have a good idea what the answer is. Have JLR addressed the keyless entry issues fully yet? The SOTA worries me. I can forsee an owner returning to a vehicle after having parked it up, and it not starting due to a failed "update", or even worse having changed some driving characteristic to something unfamiliar or even subjectively worse. It's bad enough if another driver changes the seat and mirror positions, imagine jumping in the car with different throttle, gear change or suspension settings? And then there's the issue of me having to buy my car a SIM with a data package just so JLR can interrogate it to gleam information to improve their revenue stream. Parasitic software. |

no, but the fact that only the 90 can be specced with coil or EAS is probably the culprit? -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

I think their change to new vehicles with air suspension, on board compressors, external luggage boxes and washing facilities has proved more seamless: Click image to enlarge Please also note the overabundance of verticality, so desired in today's supercompetitive SUV market. |

Thinking that through ~ wash dog, put dog in boot, dog shakes himself vigorously; resulting in headlining, interior of windows and every other surface now being splattered with muddy water. I'm sure Honda did this with the CRV a few years back? |

Does not have quite the sharp edges at the back, so will lack some of the aerodynamics of the Defender, though not sure the mpg will be much worse than the dismal figures offered by the Defender. 80" 1948 Lightweight V8 Bowler Tomcat 130 Station wagon 90 300tdi (Santana PS10 pick up) Range Rover L322 (Ful fat) |

I think the all new defender is already old. Just look at other leading SUV manufacturers already having EV SUVs in the lineup, or inttoducing such in 2020. I could justify the high asking price if it was fit for the future. I am not buying another diesel for so much money. And the straight six for even more.
G Wagon, Wrangler and Jimny are not in the same segment any more, so the new defender should mess with Merc, BMW and all other city cars. Defender 110 SW MY2011 2.4tdci decat, no EGR Jeep Wrangler YJ 1990 4.0. Front 78' Dana 60, Rear CUCV 14 bolt |
