Dimensions are interesting, not going to be going down many lanes without removing paint, and the tight ones can be forgotten it’s wider than a D3. And the wheelbase is 118 inch so closer to a 130.

Well I’ve waited and waited and waited and I’ve saved/scrimped since selling my last defender in 2016 (it was sold for a generic eurobox while the kids were wee)
Now they’re getting a bit older my wife and I are toying with the idea of a VW transporter Kombi as a family bus/camping wagon that I wouldn’t have to worry about getting knocked about a bit as the kids grow up. I really really really want a proper defender 110 again but people kept trying to nick the last one I owned (2.2tdci USW). So my initial thoughts.... From the photos I’ve seen, I like the look of a basic spec 110. I quite like the look of it from certain angles. The 90 looks wrong, the proportions seem off to me, looks sort of gawky?. what is that weird pale coloured square in the rear windows? I’m not massively keen on the fact it seems laden with technology and LED this and that and cameras etc. My previous defender experience was that Land Rover couldn’t quite get the technology right of joining a gearbox to a transfer box or a clutch that worked! Not to mention the pure unbridled rocket science of a properly designed security system! The price? Yikes, it’s expensive! I guess nobody buys new cars for cash or uses HP anymore (didn’t the chairman of Daimler Benz deride VAG as a bank that happened to make cars?) and instead uses PCP where the outright price isn’t an issue, just the monthly payments. Or are those electronic gizmos expensive? I’m not a fan of that sort of ownership model, like to buy things and keep them till they drop apart, On first impressions, It seems to me to have lost a lot of the clarity of purpose that the old one had. Hmm I’m unsure, I want to hate it (i miss my old proper defender) Will wait and see if a more basic version is offered that isn’t laden with what I see as unnecessary gimmicks and toys. why do motor manufacturers insist on using these parking cameras these days? Do people not know how to use mirrors? Or are they so used to staring at their phones they can’t raise their heads? Or is visibility so bad from the vehicle cameras are needed or you’d be forever pranging it I can’t see many agricultural or business users going for it, not unless a 4work/professional/business edition variant is offered. I've just seen a Skoda Yeti side on. It made me think 'Oh, a new Defender'. It's probably nothing like it, but that was my instant thought.
I bought my 110 van new in 2014 for just under £24,000, the most expensive thing I've ever bought apart from a house. Although I could probably find a way to raise the cash to buy one of the new Defenders (ie afford some kind of finance deal on the cheapest one), I can't think of any reason I'd want to. I sincerely hope it's a success, but sadly I won't be helping to make it so. |

You forgot the cravat I HATE (most) architects. The defender was so blatantly angled at housewifes and coffee house fops (hipsters) of my generation, and not at its traditional market base of utilitarian users. I would be the market audience of both a utilitarian 4x4 for work and a more refined thing for the weekends. A top spec USW would be ideal for me as it was. This only appeals to me for weekend work. at that cost i can't justify the tax advantages of a commercial, or even the cost of using it for work... i have to say Its very marmite love it or hate it, i think it looks pretty good, and no doubt it will sell well.
I like the idea of on board compressors and hose washdown kit, bloody hose the hound down! no mention of a wash down interior though! Big Question, when will the first new owner post on here! He will be a brave man or woman! |

The Shogun was one hell of a car! I had one like that one in the photo - it was brilliant. It's still the ONLY car I regretted getting rid of...and I've had LOTS of cars over 43 years. Now left. |

My personal thoughts:
Fantastic Car, best current offering from Land Rover and will be great to live with. I kinda of fancy one for normal everyday stuff. BUT it is no replacement for the defender terms of use. I wonder how much those light clusters will cost to replace when a tow strap comes loose and springs back at 100mph. |
