re the floating, was told to give it a moment in the water. The sills are designed to fill up with water and they have a sponge material that absorbs it too, the air travels up higher into the pillars. Was shown how it works on a factory tour with a side panel cut up. Was very interesting. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

Tim & RDR ~ thanks for the info, very interesting. Definitely never knew about the sill tech. I wonder if there's an online video showing the details?

Could JLR look to the past to bump up the pedestrian impacts scoes under NCAP?

Any wading at these kind of depths is about as edge-case as it gets for a production standard vehicle. While you may consider driving 2 or 3 feet of slow-flowing or static water where the base condition is known, add movement into that and you're in a whole new world beyond mere wading.

Worth remembering that any defender regularly and effectively wading at these depths has been modified. You might get lucky doing it once or even twice with a factory standard one, but after that you're tossing a coin every time.

If this comes out with wading of 1m that's pretty much class beating. Anyone asking for more needs to ask themselves if there's another route available Mr. Green

There’s bound to an idiot somewhere prepared to test 1m wading out, if it fails he can always blame failure of the Wade Sensing system “because I folded in the mirrors” Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

They certainly are not giving us many pixels to play with.

Will they offer an optional drop-down propeller that engages the rear driveshaft? Save having to worry about traction at the wheels Rolling with laughter

Please can someone post the link to the You Tube video of a floating LR, can't find the one referred to but did waste (?) sometime on watching fascinating clips instead of working. Peter

Volkswagen offered that in the 40s with the Schwimmwagen. Great bit of kit and the price of one will make the new Defender look a bargain. Rolling with laughter 2011 110 USW

Many moons ago I took part in the Transsylvania trophy, in the Ukraine. One day’s drive was down a river for most of the day. When we got to a deep section, my navigator got out and waded/swam the course and selected the best route. I then drove it, the water was up to the top of the steering wheel inside the cab. Following us was a camel discovery, he just followed us blindly, this was a mistake. The defender had big gaps around the door, floor and gearbox tunnel, the water flooded in and the car stayed in contact with the riverbed. The discovery was far better sealed and floated off to the deeper part of the river where it sank.
There were lots of videos and photos of the discovery around at the time (about 1994) but none of us, we got it right, so not as good viewing as a sinking discovery.
The car was fitted with a sealed raised air intake and the only problem I had was a blown fuse for the ARB diff lock compressor! 80" 1948
