Filmed from above. Could that be a full glass roof? Would be nice.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

The chequer plate looks like it's inset. Stand on that and your boots are all over the paintwork too.

Chequer plate looks like the plastic stuff you see on the side of those odd looking Citroens.

No doubt the clever designers & engineers will have thought of that, and included a pair of these in the fitting kit for the roof rack.

If that map-recce is real, the ‘So Called’ Defender must be an epic piece of kit. Simply outstanding, as either it is capable of driving over any terrain, any building, any person in a straight line from a-to-b, or it can fly. Either way, that’s pretty special. No wonder it took so long to develop. Well done JLR... Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

Bonnet looks very similar to a big Evoque one or an RRS / FFRR one with the chequer plate where their fake bonnet vents are located on those cars. Which could also make it a clamshell bonnet with the intakes in the wing and locating up under the bonnet for sheltering which also means no RAI/snorkel is required...... a la D5,RRS L494 and L405 Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |

If this model is to have the best wading ability then it will need to better 600mm (I think?). A snorkel is almost getting redundant at that level as the vehicle will tend to float and loose traction in that much water and the only way to regain traction is to allow the water into the interior - how many are going to want to do that in 600mm plus of dirty water? That's not accounting for dust and a RAI. Seriously, does the current model lineup have no RAI OEM option? |

No RAI option on the latest models in the range, as to wading depths:-
Evoque and Disco Sport have 600mm, Velar 650mm, L494 RRS 850mm, Disco5 and L405 FFRR both have 900mm All without a snorkel. According to the LR website this morning. As you say floating becomes a problem any greater depth for RRS and there is a video of one driving into a flood under a railway bridge on YouTube and floating but still able to eventually get to a wheel on the ground and traction! Who needs more than 900mm wading depth, my TDi300 90 has only 500mm and that is perfectly adequate although I have a safari snorkel on it “just Incase” The intakes of the newer models are like this - the mouldings with the square mesh ontop of the wing, far left of the photo, this is the offside wing, with V engines it’s the same on the near side too, the bonnet closes around them allowing them still to breath easily through cutouts under the clamshell. This was on my 2015 SDv6 RRS HSE Dynamic Click image to enlarge Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come 2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. As you say wading depths are immaterial in all of the current generation of vehicles (except possible the new Defender) since no-one will be opening a door to flood the vehicle to stop it floating. By the time it has reached that stage the vehicle is probably already an insurance write-off.

Regarding dust intake - in my last RRS less dust got under the bonnet than got into the boot - the amount of seals around the enginebay to close it off is quite amazing Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
