From this BBC article regarding the Bond filming in Scotland, a zoom on the photo had me thinking this might be the black Defender. I know... useless even if it is at this distance.

You work? great job
For me a little to much bronco, and would not pass 5 star safety (pedestrian impact) which it needs to sell everywere. safety was why the old one couldnt be sold in the states, which is a joke looking at jeeps safety.
Nice work though.

I don’t like it completely. I agree too
Much bronco. Just shows a different direction that could have been gone.

For sure not disagreeing with you, but when you consider all the facts of what they are looking to achieve, Safety/emissions/dual purpose /icon nods/cabability/sustainable sales numbers.
The end design is way more than this looks good, lets build this. It has to tick all boxes, not just looks and capability like the current defender.

NCAP scores can be misleading, with points given for software systems rather than physical attributes. You make reference to pedestrian safety. Look at the scores for the D5 vs the current Wrangler:

D5
Head impact = 15.5 points
Pelvis impact = 4.1 points
Leg impact = 6 points

Wrangler
Head impact = 13.4 points
Pelvis impact = 6 points
Leg impact = 4.5 points

More points means safer.

Hardly poles apart and proving the frontal design of the Wrangler does not mean much in terms of pedestrian safety.

D5 is 5 stars and the Wrangler is 1 star.

You need to look more deeply to see the reasons why.

Just to add current G class has a higher pedestrian score than the D5, is also 5 stars and so again proves a slab fronted vehicle would have been perfectly acceptable...

Im well versed in the Jeeps safety and its adult lack of protection and pedestrian lack of safety.

Its a subject that comes up a fair bit, jeep can do it..well no they cant and dont.

https://www.ancap.com.au/safety-ratings/jeep/wrangler/c89ac3

The pedestrian safety is in fact one of jeeps biggest problems

Jeep 50% VRU fail.

https://www.thedrive.com/news/28300/americ...ngs-abroad

Last year, just as the new JL Wrangler was hitting dealerships, Euro NCAP—Europe’s version of the IIHS and NHSTA—delivered a critical report on its overall safety, handing it just a single star out of five after it was tested against the continent's strict standards. "Dummy readings, together with the penalty applied for [an as tested] unstable bodyshell, resulted in protection of the driver chest being rated as weak," part of Euro NCAP’s report concerning adult protection states. "In the full-width rigid barrier test, dummy readings of chest compression showed marginal protection of the driver chest." Boiled down, there's a significant chance of injury for an adult in a crash.

The agency also dinged the JL Wrangler over its lack of standard passive safety systems including automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and hood airbags for pedestrians. Pedestrian safety was actually one of the Wrangler’s biggest issues, with Euro NCAP declaring that "the protection provided by the bonnet to the head of a struck pedestrian was predominantly poor or adequate. The bumper provided good protection to pedestrians' legs while protection of the pelvis was mixed."

Now the D5

https://www.ancap.com.au/safety-ratings/la...ery/4c9865

D5 75% VRU Pass, Jeep 50% VRU fail.

D5 is 5 star, that means it passes everything including the pedestrian safety, the jeep doesnt, not by a long shot.

If you also look at the g wagon it has a similar shape to the new Defenders front and it also scores a similar score to the Discovery 5, i would imagine the new defender will score in a similar way again, infact they have probably tested prototypes to ensure as much.

Fleet buyers and the general public demand five star safety these days so that is the standard for a worldwide selling car.

The point was LR needed something that would pass safety tests not fail them all over the world, unlike the current defender and jeep (which is the roundest yet, grill raked, windscreen raked etc,)these facts along with effeciciency would constrain end design from being overly boxy on the front face.
