Just a quick update as I’ve not been on here for a while. Now clocked 30k miles (it doesn’t do huge miles) in 6yrs of ownership and we’ve been camping for the first time since our son was born. He’s now 3 and loved every minute, especially sleeping on the roof!

Sorry I’ve been a bit quiet on here lately - nothing interesting to post to be honest, house restoration and being a Dad keeping me busy!
Anyway, got a little upgrade coming on the Keswick truck shortly... After 7 years the MTRs are looking quite cracked so it was time to swap. I’ve always loved the ANR deep dish wheels (and they match the original ones I have on my Lightweight!) so have ordered a set of 5. They’ll be going off to paint soon (Limestone) and then be shod in 255/85R16 BFG KM3s... Hopefully will be in keeping with the ‘modern classic’ look. More pics to follow! Click image to enlarge |

Mmm... fresh rubber is here! Not for the Velar, although I bet it would be awesome on KM3s!

Hey Steve good to know you are still about. Looks like you are again following in my footsteps going from MTR to KM tyres. We run KM3s at work and I must say I'm not a fan as off-road they are not as good as KM2. I'll be curious how you get on.
Must meet up soon, message me? Dan 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

Hi Dan, great to hear from you - long time no see!
Just seen the updates on your thread, good to see you still have yours too and it’s still looking great. Yes, to be honest I really tried to get hold of a set of KM2s, but failed. Can imagine the date codes on any new ones are pretty old now too. Oh well... Will definitely let you know how I get on with the KM3s (and slight size increase) and will give you a shout for a catch up as soon as things become a bit more normal! Were the KM2s much of an improvement in mud over the MTRs? Cheers. |

No noticable difference really, I only fitted KM2s as I preferred the look and the MTRs were wearing out, both were good enough for my needs. I find the wider KM2/KM3s on works vehicles don't seem to hold the road very well, but they are 265/75 size, my 235 seem okay but are nowhere near as good as the Michelin ATs I usually run, although they are very road biased. 2011 110 USW

Cheers for the feedback. Will be interesting to see how these are. Still plenty of tread left on the MTRs and I've been impressed with them for my needs, but the cracking is just too bad now and I don't fancy a motorway blowout fully laden...
Just need to find somewhere that can paint my new wheels for sensible money - was quoted £600 yesterday!! |
