Exactly On the one hand i would like annual but on the other i like the idea. Especially new cars at 4yrs - i bet there isnt a manufacturer that fails the 1st MOT (especially as its under warranty) so 4yrs, 6yr 8yrs 10yrs then maybe annually? Mike |

The thing is if people wanted there car checked each year nothing is stopping them, most owners of newer vehicles look after them and have them regularly serviced anyway, mot centres are unlikely to lose that much work as they can offer an annual inspection service.
Looks like the government trying to give an olive branch to motorists that have been hammered for years. |

I was suprised when I read the attached news earlier in the year how many cars (between 10 to 30%) fail their first MOT.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/opensecrets/201...eased.html http://motfail.co.uk/ Most of the failures are due to things like lights, tyres, brakes etc An argument for keeping the three year rule??? JK No the other left . . . |

The odd lamp out is just driver incompetance - but it can happen to anyone any time. mechanically there should be little wrong, if its been serviced. Mike |

Thats what I was driving at, if the driver can't even check and fix bulbs, what else are they ignoring/havn't looked for? 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

Yeah but an MOT doesnt solve that an MOT is about as much use as a chocolate tea cup - you can still drive around with a fault for 364 days of the year and even then pass an MOT with some testers. A good service, by a decent garage, will pick up the same defects an MOT - and cars generally are much more reliable than of old. Same they cant apply the same thinking to speed limits. Mike |

Yep quite so. I'm personally glad they have introduced basic maintenance into the driving lessons/test, bulbs out is very annoying as it could cost me a shedload with my work, I have to check all the lights daily, and my trailer ones keep packing up 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |
