Standard Bumper Strength
Hi

I currently drive a standard 2010 Defender 90 and am interested in putting on some front recovery points and mounting a winch. The existing recovery points are fouled by the genuine Land Rover steering guard bash plate so I cannot fit 3.2 tonne D shackles there. The manual says on-road recovery anyway for those so I was thinking of bolting some recovery points to the standard bumper?

There are numerous universal winch mounting plates available and I've checked the dimensions and the back row will mount to the bumper with between 4-6 high tensile bolts and I would also get a local fabricator to weld it into place before putting a winch on. I guess I'm interested in how strong the standard bumper is and if it can handle these or am I better off forking out for aftermarket winch bumper or try to get a defender specific mounting plate that extends to the chassis with existing bolts?

Cheers Jim

Should be ok as a winch bumper is a different kettle of fish as it is beefier....?? Here are some previous discussions...
