A4 is equivalent to the 10.9 in my opinion sufficiently strongfor the safety belt....

I too changed those four bolts for stainless of the same torx pattern, and was concerned about getting ones with the correct tensile rating for the same reasons. I mentioned it here http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic6933.html
After much hunting I found some guy on fleabay who was sourcing them from a Swedish company who makes them for motorway crash barriers. I figured they would probably be strong enough! Pete |

Thanks for the replies chaps
The 4 x Cross member bolts that I have are also Swedish sourced and the suppliers' website does comment that they are much stronger grade of stainless (a4) given their intended application. It was their general disclaimer on the website which spooked me a bit. Clearly it's necessary though just to make customers aware of when not to use stainless fixings and which grade of stainless is applicable etc.... I'll try them again in the morning but will give bapp a shout too. Thanks again Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless. |

Update...
Couldn't get through to BAPP technical but I did manage to speak this morning to my supplier, A2stainless, aka Stigs stainless fastners. Spoke to a very helpful chap there, (forgot to get his name), who without any prompting from me confirmed that they source the screws from Sweden and that their main application over there is for motorway crash barriers. As you said Pete .... they should be up to the job then Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless. |

A2 Stainless / Stig - snap! That's where I got mine from.
One word of caution though, if yours came with those 'split' locking nuts, don't use them. One of mine locked solid part way up the bolt before it was fully tightened. I had to carefully remove it by splitting the nut with a tiny Dremel 25mm dia metal cutting disc. I then used normal M10 A4 nylocs which I already had at work. I may have just been unlucky though and yours may be fine. Pete |
