Diff Crown Wheel Bolts
Confused about which crown wheel bolts to use
After having my front diff destroy it's self trying to eat it's own crown wheel bolt I've sourced a good 2nd hand diff from an earlier Td5 and intend to fit new crown wheel bolts before fitting it and also plan to change the rear diff crown wheel bolts as a precaution, having already sourced the front crown wheel bolts from the local main dealer before I collected the diff
The main dealer couldn't identify wether I had a two or four pin diff in the rear but were adamant that the bolts were different between the two and four pin diffs even sent pictures showing the four pin diff c/w bolts
So I removed the rear diff to find the c/w bolts are identical to the original front diff c/w bolts but slightly different to the new bolts (bolt head slightly different), just to confuse things more the replacement diff has totally different c/w bolts (slightly longer and with separate washers)
Are the bolts interchangeable? Or am I banging my head against a brick wall

Cheers kevin

I had my front do the same a few weeks ago. The bolts with a washer are the same as the ones with a pan head and serrations though those ones are best. Use loctite blue and a good torque wrench to set them. I was lucky and only had two gear teeth chipped so that diff is now my spare.

Good luck. Thumbs Up 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

Any idea of the torque setting for the bolts? Does 60NM sound right and is it the same for all types of bolt ?
