Hi there
From some time ago my Defender are experiencing a random issue that still I cannot locate Some times, randomnly, the engine lost power and is not possible to run over 60 KPH. No engine ligth and not DTC code stored (using a normal scanner) and no strange sound or anything that guide me to the culprit. If I stop the car and wait some time, star to working normal again. Appears that the turbo refuse to work but I'm not sure (no special sound when the failure happens or when working OK) I already check visually the wiring loom to see if have some wire broken. Any Thoughts from where I can start? Cheers! Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

Mine derates when the temp gets over 110 deg C
Gauge on dash still shows normal temp but OBD2 plug in gauge tells different story. Mark |

Well
A pending DTC appeared: PO234 (Turbocharget overboost), so probably hank is right. Anyway, I will ask to my wife if she can clean the MAF and the MAP sensors (not easy task) Cheers Update: the code dissapeared after run again the car at 100 kph... Finally 2 issues
a) Turbo actuator are not working properly. According to my Indy is better to change the whole turbo. He had problems in the past to pair the turbo with a new actuator he said that the actuator stroke of the spares offered are not the same than the turbo request. b) The bracket bearing (where the viscous fan is sitting) have a lot of play and must be changed In Chile both pieces available but at a cost that almost double the price of import from UK. So... Waiting the final quotation from Dan @ Duckworth to put the order Cheer to all and thanks for the help Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

Check the wire next to the connector of the turbo actuator. I had the same fault (Turbo overboost) and one of the wires were just broken just within the connector. Not directly visible, you need to slightly twitch each wire to get it visible.
Problem was, that the wire disconnected on road bumps and the engine runs only 3000 RPM with additional lower power with this fault. After the engine restart, the wire was connected again until I hit the next bump. Best regards Max |
