Its normal. It doesn't take long to change colour as you've already noticed.

It maybe a sign that your master cylinder rubbers are degrading / close to failing, as rubber is black.

THNX, I thought something like that myself.
But I was not sure if it would be the slave cylinder in the clutch housing, or the master cylinder attached to the clutch pedal. If I remember correctly the master cylinder is changed a few years ago(by a none OEM one I guess). Maybe the quality of the rubber cups used in that (non original) cylinder is not as good as the ones in an original LR or OEM cylinder............? |

Just had the Master cylinder replaced as the pedal was soft in the morning but after running the engine for a while firmed up some days it stayed firm for a few days then went soft again (no it did'nt run out of little blue tablets) any way when i looked at the old original one after 176000 miles they took out it was proper black gunk behind the rubber seal and after having it back for a week or so and doing a 100 plus miles its been fine

I will have a look at the master cylinder.
The rubber from the cup must be different from the rubber used in the brake master cylinder as the brake fluid keeps his (original) colour. |

Changed the clutch on ours & it wouldn’t bleed 100% plus the fluid was black a day after changing it. New genuine master cylinder & the clutch bled no problem and the fluid is clear..
