After speaking to a dealer. All commercial vehicles will be special order. The new Defender is the new family car that can go anywhere.

We will have to wait and seen a couple of months Smile

All I can think is they are so worried about adverse reaction to the look of it they are drip feeding us all so when they pull back the curtain it will be an accepted for what it is. A D4 Replacement Big Cry 1984 One-Ten CSW

The spy shots of the camo'd cars will be a managed public reaction exercise carefully planned by marketing and product teams. No doubt much of the real off road capability testing is done in hangars on specifically built tracks and scaffold structures. Not so sure the recent documents were leaked on purpose. Either way marketing will be meeting daily discussing everything reported and commented including what we are saying on this forum Laughing 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

Don't forget they toured the world with "BEST 4x4..." badge on it, so I expect they proove it when the car is released. Defender 110 SW MY2011 2.4tdci decat, no EGR

Like the look of the 90 & the aluminium chassis will save a fortune on rustproofing! Although my wife has told me I'm neither young, fun loving or due to having owned land Rovers since the 70's due to running costs I'm no longer affluent! Since 1973...S1, Air Portable's, Defender's, but only my Wolf TUL HS GS remains

Bearing in mind the number of issues forum members here are having with corrosion and perforation of aluminium alloy Defender body panels, I think you might be being a tad optimistic with your expectations of the chassis!

I think you can safely predict that chassis repairs will be vastly more difficult than on the last Defender.

Well JLR did admit that the new Defender is going to be a difficult launch !

Now I know why , this SUV will take sales from the Discovery ,

The young effluent type will own for a couple of years in warranty .

And let's all admit that Discovery 5 has been an absolute disaster for JLR , Jerry should be relieved of duties immediately instead of the thousands of assembly employees , I bet Jerry gets paid more than them anyway .

JLR has serious sustainability issues going forward , there business plan is a failure because they do not move the numbers of vehicles to recoup expenses and therefore this is leading to a very very serious affordability issue for new consumers .

Disco 5 is no doubt a fine vehicle but the style is divisive and it is far too expensive , only bought by the young and effluent ?

I cannot believe that Tata has not addressed these issues when India itself cold produce a traditional Defender / thar commercial rugged type of vehicle into their home market !

This new Defender is divisive like the Disco 5 ,

And will have the same core affordability issues , keeping consumers away in droves .

.

England 2014 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 SW Alpine White
Hi Everyone,

Not posted for ages but following this thread I wanted to chip in. Why am I so Censored off with all the hype and spy pics?

My 2014 MY 110 is a genuinely useful tool. We currently have lambs in the paddock and it's no problem putting a couple of them in the back if they need moving. I can hitch up almost any trailer without much hassle. As it qualifies for commercial vehicle status it is good for the P11d and the business. When the weather turns bad it can drag a fallen tree off our lane or pull a stuck vehicle out of the snow without the need for a tractor. tt usually saves the day and I can fix most issues when something is not right. (TBH I have found the late MY Defenders to be very reliable if you look after them). I don't relish a 300 mile motorway trip in it, but that's a job for the Audi TT.

I just don't see how I would want to use the New Defender for any of the practical tasks above and probably a million other useful jobs you can all think of. It's a bit like Ford stopping Transit production and replacing it with an Smax. I know the new Defender will be a great car but the hype suggests it is not a replacement for the original Icon

So... am I going to buy a new Defender P400 X First Edition, fully loaded, 0-60 in <6 secs, ~£85K to replace the Audi TT? Whistle Paul
