How can they call it a "global debut" when (a) it is still in camo and (b) it's been seen in this form for months? The commentary is a load pf piffle too. |

This long, long, drawn out peek a boo, drip, drip debut is a real turn off. Nothing but BORING marketing bull-hype. Steve.

I still live in another world.
A world where all this drip-feeding of Discovery lookalikes and yet another SUV to add to all the other SUV's, is just a giant con by JLR. A world where they pull back the curtains in September and reveal the actual Defender replacement, which looks totally different to these images - and has been developed to accurately fill the gap that Defender has left. A world where real Defender users and owners are knocked backwards at how JLR have got it completely right. I may be alone in my world, but I like it more than this yours. |

It will be very interesting on what the values of our Defenders will be when the new ones go on sale I guess those at silly money ie 50k up will take a big hit if the new ones start at 40k not sure about the ones under 30k may keep their price or depreciate as we buy any car would price

I was there today too. Mixed feelings. Front looks D4. Rear door and roofline looked a fair attempt at a Defender.
Interesting I was with two non LR mates who would be in the earning bracket to buy one. They both loved it and were dead interested. 1951 80" S1 2.0 1995 110 300TDI 1995 90 300TDI |

I see JLR have put the token recovery point at the part of the vehicle that gets buried in the mud, and there is only one so that you can't add a bridal to share the recovery load. At least the DC100 had the right idea. Best 4x4 belongs to the Jeep Wrangler now. Perhaps Jeep should sue JLR.

And there you go ... sorry folks, but thats the real truth about it ... and it would appear that LR know their target market. ------------------------------- I miss my V8's.... |

If Land Rover new there target market , the Disco 5 would be a roaring success ,
Truth is they do not . Discovery gave them volume sales to grow and then introduced the very successful Freelander , This became the biggest selling suv in Europe ! Oh and then it all went pear shaped due to quality and poor engineering and they decided to go upmarket , and now look at them , lots of the same suvs in different sizes and there sales are dwindling globally . We can buy Chinese built vehicles new with 7 year warranties in Australasia , Imagine a 7 year warranty on a JLR product , They would be finished ! In fact in Australia recently they have just lost a massive court case against a couple who spent 150000 ossie dollars on a new Range Rover that was a dud and JLR would not take the vehicle back , they sued and won , the judge declaring the vehicle not fit for purpose and JLR had to pay out over 600000 dollars to the couple . Volkswagen are now using the JLR case as education to there dealer network , how not to do things . I hope the new Defender is successful but it appears to be same old same old modern Land Rover . Too many suspensions parts , electronics etc . My Disco 4 is an amazing vehicle but to be honest a modern vehicle should not cost what this thing has cost me to keep on the road yet my 300tdi Disco and Defender just keep plodding on . I look at that suspension under the new Defender and cringe knowing what lower control arm bushes and compressors have cost me on my Disco . JLR are blaming their problems on brexit , We all know it is quality and engineering . Is this new Defender going to be any different ???????? . |
