I have a britpart cubby with the thin lid. I want to upgrade this to a comfier item.
Most suppliers sell a 50mm lid. At 5'7, will I see any benefit wit a 50mm lid? I have seen that britpart supply a 'chubby' box with 80mm lid and wondering if this will be more suitable (or even too thick?). My second problem with the 50mm is that everyone lists it as being made for the standard land rover box, does it differ to a britpart in terms of fitting a lid? Thanks in advance. Si |

I can't comment on the height thing. That's obviously very individual, and will also depend on the height of the seat base (new or worn); whether any seat risers are fitted etc etc.
But I just thought I'd make a suggestion that might be easier and (maybe) cheaper. You could either take the existing lid off and take it to an upholsterer locally and ask them to add deeper foam; or find a piece of plywood, cut it to shape and ask them to make a thicker one up. Before that even, you could get a couple of pieces of foam, stick them in some sort of cover and tape them to the existing box before deciding what suits you best? Just a thought. Ha! "make your own".... I did .... pics in the thread below, and it was carp!
But I was complicating it with folds and a cut-out for the cubby key/lock. I decided there was more to that than met the eye, hence the suggestion for an upholsterer. If it was a plain square, then I'd agree with you. Layers of camping mat is a good idea though - build up in small increments till you find what suits. I'll need to put a new foam lid on mine, as the sub locker has raised it too much for my 'home made template' to be comfortable. I'll go with the foam mat slices as a good approach. Alternatively, cut some blocks/ply to size and block the cubby box up to the desired height from beneath
Or fit a locker box > 110 XS Double Cab Last edited by hank on 3rd Jul 2019 11:33am. Edited 1 time in total |

Fit a locker underneath the cubby box.
Raises the cubby, and provides secure storage. |

Raising the cubby up does seem the easiest and most logical solution.

Well I won't be making my own, due to the folds on the corners as mentioned (and shown) above.
I did overlook raising the box, I must admit. I will take a look at under cubby storage but I will want to do something with the lid because the britpart one is wafer thin. |

Can't comment on the Britpart compatibility, but the deep cubby top was the first thing I did when I bought my defender.
Got mine at the Peterborough show from Mobile Storage Systems. Looks the same as it did when I installed it. I am sure you would benefit from installing one. |
