Did they change the clutch fluid. If so I would suspect that you have air in the system and the clutch need bleeding.

@andydef90
It's only an hour's drive to the shop so not too bad. I contacted them as soon as I noticed the issue, and said I would monitor it and get back to them if it continued. So next week I'll be getting back in touch and asking them to sort it out. |

Maybe double check your gearbox drain & filler plugs are tight.

@ Marks Landy - Cheers for that. Another thing to check when getting this looked at.

Spent 3 hours at the shop today.
No air in the lines. No loose oil plugs. No metal pieces in the gear oil. I don't think it helped that I'd driven an hour to get there, and the warmed up gearbox was shifting better. The mechanic suggested it could be down to the change of gear oil at the last service. Because the old stuff was very gluggy perhaps the gearbox wasn't as 'smooth' with the new stuff. I offered to leave the 110 there overnight so they could experience the very difficult changes when it's cold but he said there wouldn't be much point - because they couldn't identify anything they might have done to cause it initially, or any problem that didn't involve pulling the whole thing apart at my cost to see if a new gearbox was necessary. He said there was no risk of mechanical damage (or further damage?) from driving it around and seeing how it went, and they replaced the gear oil again, free of charge to see if it makes any difference. So let's see how it goes over the coming weeks. Thanks again for the various suggestions. |

Sounds like a bit of a cop out from the mechanic. See how it goes with the gear oil I suppose. Is you mechanic an LR main dealer? Is it still under warranty?

@Co1 They're a Land Rover specialist mechanic with a good reputation around my city and state. Been going there for 3-4 years for servicing - this is the first time I've had an issue, so it's a bit of a 50/50 situation in my mind at the moment.
It's about 3 months out of warranty... Hahaha! As you'd expect. |

What oil went in?
Did they measure out 2.2 litres of oil rather than “fill to spill”? |

Good question. I think they use Penrite, but I didn't think to ask about whether they used correct measurements or filled to the brim.

Have you tried driving it in low ratio? I'm just wondering if the transfer box may not be quite aligned and causing issues in low gears that are more noticeable than high gears. A bit of a longshot, but maybe worth a check.

@boxoftricks
That's actually worth a go, cheers. I thought it might be some misalignment originally, and rowed it through the various gears while stationary - but I haven't taken it somewhere with some loose or uneven terrain and driven it in low range. Will give it a try this week. |
