New Top Gear
Having given the last series a miss as I could not stand the line up of Evans and Matt LeBlanc. However, with the new line up, I thought I would give it a try, glad I did as the new presenters Paddy McGuinness, Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris are OK in fact once they have settled down into the roles I think the BBC might be on to a winner again. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Really? Rolling Eyes
Let’s see to how many foreign TV stations your BBC will be able to sell the broadcasting rights now. Think at best it will remain a meagre fraction of what they were able to get from the Clarkson & co good old days.

To be fair I was only commenting on the home market, as even I do not think Paddy McGuinness's humour will travel well, although saying that maybe it will.

In this age of the BBC and its diversity and slotting a female presenter or an LBGT presenter wherever they can it was refreshing to have a 'blokes' only line up for a change. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Personally, I enjoyed the original Top Gear. The BBC replacement with it's personality vacuum imported jerks was a complete waste of time. The original team were equally unable to recreate the formula they once had and were an embarrassing shadow of their former selves.
If you have a good formula leave it alone. Something the BBC especially seem unable to do.

I watched part of it today as, from the preview, it looked like they might have got the lineup a bit better.

I'll be honest, I only watched about 20 mins (an improvement over my last attempt !) and couldn't get into it. I'm not sure why really, it just seemed to be missing something still. I may try and watch another one as it's definitely an improvement over the ones I tried to watch from the previous series.

I think it may be that they've still not been brave enough to create a new show, as if slotting new presenters into the same roles that were so successful before would fix everything. It's a bit like watching a tribute band that's got better than last time you saw them but there's no conviction or soul behind the "songs" and you start missing the original version because the tribute band don't quite have the same skill or flair.

In some ways I think that GT did better because they weren't allowed to use the same old format and were brave enough to drop the least successful new segments. They managed to create a new vehicle to showcase their adventures which was different but in many ways seemed more natural. Interesting now to see what the next GT series will bring without the studio setting to introduce it. I will miss "Conversation Street" though and hope they can still bring something like that into the new mix. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/

I saw the trailer.

That was enough for me to make sure I gave it a miss.

If i want my car 'fix' I watch youtube.

I watched Top Gear last night, only because Harris is on...
I'm not a fan of 'sports' people...I didn't even know Flintoff was a cricket batter.

I admit, it entertained me, I found bits funny.

It's not a car show, it's a family entertainment show, that is car themed.... remember that and you may enjoy it.

To stay in this forum’s spirit of 4x4 trucks, that here with The Hamster in the lead is exemplary for what the real thing was all about. Spirited, entertaining, well made TV. Popular all over the world. Don’t see the BBC able to replicate this quality.

I watched it my chance and quite enjoyed it. Not a patch on the Clarkson days but far better then the previous two line ups. I do think it would benefit from to going back to more of a car show rather then continuing the the same format though. James

I really enjoyed it. Definitely an improvement over the last series, Clarkson Top Gear and his Amazon effort.

I can't see it working over the pond though as I could barely understand Paddy and Flintoff. I had to turn subtitles on. Didn't spoil it though as I often watch foreign stuff with subtitles.

Early days, but I thought it was really good.

Not sure how much of it was scripted, but a lot of the banter did seem to be ad lib and very funny.
And Chris Harris was able to shine, being more of an equal, rather than an add on.

I was a big fan of the Clarkson/Hammond/May format, but disappointed with the last series of Grand Tour.
Clarkson has become an old man/one trick pony (if that isn't a contradiction!) and the story lines have become repetitive and boring.

Sunday's Top Gear had me in tears of laughter at times with a fresh take on the old story line of "take three old cars and get from A to B".

I'm sure sub titles and a sign language edition will help those who struggle with the Northern Powerhouse accent Rolling with laughter
