Hi, would anybody have an installation guidefor a Safari snorkel for a Td5 Defender.
I ordered one from Paddocks, and had it sent over to Aus. The one sent was for a TD4 Puma engined Defender, when I got hold of Paddocks and told them they had sent the wrong one they said the part number was now for the TD4 and TD5 Defender. Safari snorkels comfirmed this and also there website says the same thing. The problem is that the installation guide is clearly based around a TD4 Puma. So if anyone has an old one they could scan that would be much appreciated. Cheers, Col. |

I wouldn't have thought the instructions would be that different as the fittings to the wing and screen are the same on both models. As it is classed as a RAI the inner ducting doesn't get touched does it? John

The outside is the same, but it is the inner ducting and airbox etc which are different. Col. |

Apologies if I'm missing something but the inner ducting isn't part of the RAI fitting is it? John http://www.hampshire4x4response.co.uk 2011 Tdci 110 CSW XS |

But you need only be concerned with the exterior fitting and mounting of the thing which is the same as the Puma. Sealing of the inner pipework etc is down to you anyway. Steve. Your dead right, but because the instructions are showing various photos of bits to seal on the inside (on the TD4) I'm thinking, well that would probably be a good idea to do on my TD5. My D2 is a V8 Petrol, which I fiited the snorkel onto.I considered it not quite as vital in 100% completely sealing it when I fitted it, but the TD5 being a diesel...... Well. lets just say maybe I'm a bit paranoid about water getting into the engine, but Land Rover parts over this side of the world are not cheap. |

Take an objective look at the internal ducting and drains and then get to work with the sealant Steve.

File cut edge smooth and paint to prevent rust. 3 Tape the template in position on the upper rear corner of the guard and mark the mounting hole locations using a felt pen. Remove the template. Drill the mounting holes to 16mm using a step drill. Deburr holes and paint. 4 Bolt the upper mounting bracket into position on the snorkel body. Insert the stainless steel studs into the back of the snorkel. Locate the snorkel on the vehicle and mark the upper mounting hole locations on the windscreen frame using a felt pen. Remove the snorkel from the vehicle. 5 Drill the mounting holes to 3.5mm. Using a small amount of silicone, stick the foam gasket to the back of the snorkel body. Use the same method to join the upper mounting bracket to the bracket gasket. 6 Install steel joiner (Item 13) into standard flexible duct and fasten using genuine hose clamp. Lubricate both ends of this air entry hose (item 12) with CRC or a similar lubricant and install the air entry hose and hose clamp (Item 15) onto the snorkel snout loosely. Position the snorkel body onto the vehicle and fasten using appropriate hardware supplied in the kit. 7 Connect the air entry hose to the steel joiner and fasten using hose clamp (item 14). Ensure that the air entry hose and genuine flexible duct have adequate clearance to all panel work, brake lines and steering column universal joint. 8 Radio antenna (if fitted to right hand guard) must be relocated 60mm forward. 1/ Measure 60mm forward from the front of the existing antenna hole (refer to drawing), using a felt pen mark the new antenna hole position.2/ Drill a pilot hole, then use masking tape to mask an area of approximately 100mm sq to protect the paintwork whilst drilling with the holesaw. 9 Refit the radio antenna to the new position. Blank - off old antenna hole using blanking grommet (item 16) fit the air ram to the top of the snorkel and tighten clamp.
