So here goes!
Wrong time of year but just thinking ahead...does anyone have experience of Good Year MTR's in the snow? Reading other posts it is obvious that BFG MTs and Cooper STT aren't that great in snow compared to AT or M+S rated tyres (obviously) but would the GY's fare any better than the other two mud favourites in any one's experience? Just looking at changing from Grabber TR's to a more aggressive tread and trying to avoid having two sets of tyres. David. |

I will also be on a Vreidstein Wintrac winter tyre (with mountain and snowflake).
Better to be safe than sorry and it also now law where I live.  |

Nice one Ken!
It seems that the AT2 is the name that keeps coming up. So excuse my ignorance but what is the difference between M+S and M+Snowflake? I thought they were the same? David. |

I'm sure Ken will clarify, but my understanding is:
M+S - Normal all year road tyre with a tread pattern 'suitable' for mud and snow. Mountain and Snowflake - Specific softer compound and tread pattern to allow for better grip on Ice and Snow. If you were to drive on them in the summer, they would wear out pretty rapid!! Cheers Ian |

M+S generally acceptable as a winter tyre although in proper winter places were Winter Tyres are required you would be foolhardy to not have a Winter Tyre with a Mountain & Snowflake on the sidewall

Ibex, maybe you have just saved me some ££. Perhaps I'll just renew my front (worn) TR's and be done with it. But I am fighting my vanity and desire for "the look"

What about the New Cooper ST, looks like a fairly chunky all terrain tyre?
I've no idea what they are rated. Steve

They are rated M+S (no snowflake) and have been great in the snow for the last two winters. they look good, wear well and work well. The Continentials that are now standard fit on Defenders are M+S rated as well so I'll see what they are like this winter. Just to add - the TRs on the 07 Puma were fine in snow and off road - just looked a bit 'road biased'. John

TR's OK on a flat road on snow but hopeless in anything else in my experience - don't attempt hills, especially ones with Yorkshire Dales stone walls on either side - bl***y frightening!

If you choose to stick with TR's or want to buy yourself some time, I got 3 TR's (235/85/16) in the garage going spare. 2 have about 5-6 mm and 1 has 8-9mm on it. Have it listed in the for sale section. Given they not brand new, you are welcome to them for nowt if you can pick up close'ish to me (Buckingham or Oxford area) or I happy to hang on to them until you can coordinate a forum relay

why has no one mentioned BFG ATs? I have a set and they are great for all year round, dont seem to wear out. Onroad/Off road etc. Current:D4 HSE
