I felt rather smug when I got in my frosty defender once at a hotel. I started it and pressed the heated screen button, within 30 seconds I flicked the wipers, which cleared the ice, and drove away. All in full view of the man scraping the screen of his brand new Mercedes with a credit card. A gentle nod and a wave was all that was required - he knew what had just happened

That's certainly a good thing Ford owned LR at one point so they got the heated screen patent!

Don't think it was Ford ownership as I had a heated screen in my RR in 1989 and in my Defender in 1991

Ford owned Jag from 1990, I would imagine that there was some patent overlap beforehand even though Jaguar and Landrover were still separate back then

Landrover may have bought a license, however

1984 Defender 90 200 Tdi SW Coniston Green

I fitted a heated windscreen to my 1984 90SW about 10-12 years ago, and have a wee word of warning based on my personal experience!

I was offered 2 types of heated screen, a 2wire and a 4wire. There wasn't a massive price difference, but went for the 2wire one thinking it'd be an easier job to wire up, and it was!

BUT, although it still has the left and right element sections as I have on my D2, it is pitifully slow to clear the screen! And, as it happens, the screen is de-laminating right along the bottom, which renders it non working at the cloudy bits!

As to a wiring kit, there weren't any aftermarket Land Rover kits on the market when I got mine, but I got a kit from Moss that came without a switch, so you could choose one to match the Classic Mini or Triumph that the kit was listed for.
