went for the Pioneer but I'm thinking of it get rid of it and getting the new Sony that comes with an aerial so you don't need your phone to be able to use the sat nav

Did a lot of research on this. The best units if you’re doing a home fit are the half depth double din units.
These slide in and have no need to adjust the “stuff” at the back.

I chose the kenwood model below. But jvc do a similar one.cost is sub £400

I have a Pioneer unit,

Bluetooth
Hands free calling and even reads or sends texts.
Android car play which is what I wanted
Plays music from Amazon Music (either on line or off line collections so no data used)
Use phone via google maps or waze for sat nav. Used it for Annecy road trips.
Reversing camera also
Radio is Dab + unsure what that is but lists the songs etc

Loads of other stuff you can do like change the back grounds, colours etc

From memory around £420 with the Dab aerial

Might be a daft question, but does the screen pop out when you select reverse or do you have to do it manually?

Screen comes out when you turn ignition on so camera just come up on screen when reverse selected

Screen takes about 3 seconds to fold away if you don’t want it open👍 2008 110 2.4 XS Utility (Hagrid)

HI Mev

If youære installing it yourself I'd definitely recommend the half depth models. Fitting it is a breeze. Took me an no time to complete my installation. hardest bit was gathering the pateince to cut the dash for the switch panel.

If youre happy unging google/apple/waze maps on your phone, then the best units with Apple car play / Android audio are the:

JVC unit from Mudstuff (JVC KW-M745DBT)
Kenwood (DMX7018DABS)

Both of these are realy fance. cost the same at about £400 (They are the same unit in reality) Look great installed. they both have no buttons but allow you to touch the screen. They also have a background you can change to a landrover one (or alternative) screen.

If you want satnav built in the price goes up. A lot.... and the units are all full depth double din units so you need to push and move a few bits behind the stereo. Again the kenwood unit DNX716WDABS is great but you can get them that have a DVD player in them too. Screen folds out for access and can also tilt for better viewing angle.

For me, I know where i'm going 99% and if not i plug in my phone with Google maps downloaded offline. I did the glovebox conversion and just keep my phone in there.
It's good as you know you always have the latest map and it shows live traffic info and soon will show speed cameras. Plus it's free.

Total cost for my setup was £400 for head unit.
£30 for a rear view camera
£250 for the double din fascia (Defender upgrades)
£20 for a DAB stereo splitter

Total of £800 and a few hours graft to completely change the look of the interior.

Keep us updated on what you decide to go for.

I would not purchase a ‘pop out’ screen.
I have one and they are slow to pop out and make using the reversing camera hopeless. My unit (Clarion) is now not working and am informed it is a common problem that the flexing cables wear. Getting someone to repair it is impossible (unless anyone can help), so a 4 year old hardly used unit is probably heading for the bin.
I again am looking at double DIN
