has that got anything to do with all the subsidies that have been given out for solar panel etc?
methinks another log burner (with back boiler this time), some solar thermal panels, and a load of LED lamps? oh and perhaps a diesel generator running on waste cooking oil ? |

I am looking into solar at the moment as i have a large south facing roof, the set up costs are huge panels are approx £500 each, i am not going down the route of getting one of the investment power companys in who get all the money back not me, i want to do it myself and get all the sell in tariff. got some info from site last week about solar pv tiles instead of ugly panels, more surface area avalable and more efficent but the amount of wiring to do in the roof space is mind boggling.
Not seen any increases from British gas combined account yet not looking foward to the shock. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough. As a lot of people pay on budget account (monthly DD for a fixed amount) I reckon it will take 3-6 months before people reaslise just hum much this is costing - when the utility company raises their DD by 70% to catch up on the deficit

You can't do it yourself and get the FIT tariff. I have a 4KW solar installation completed in may. To qualify it HAS to be installed by a MCS approved installer. Since may it has 'earned' at least £10 a day. The best way to look at it is by taking a loan for 6 or 7 years the FIT payments you receive which are index linked and guaranteed for 25 years, will equal the loan payments. So for years 1-7 you are simply not using as much electric from the grid = cheaper bill. For years 7 onward your FIT payment is equal to or a little more than your electric bill (for me anyway)so you no longer pay for electricity. Someone asked about electricity prices, here are jockish powers new tariff: Electricity prices Current† New† First 225kWh used each quarter 16.699p 21.558p All/Day remaining kWh 7.216p 10.664p |
