I'd suggest that the best tent for that rack is one that you take off and set up on the ground. Darren

My goodness!! That's beautiful! is that a new paint job, looks very clean!!
PS I don't think you will get a roof tent on that... I had to take the side bars off my roof rack to get the tent on... ![]() Click image to enlarge Unless you make feet for the rtt to sit on??? Or place a standard set of roof bars over the roof rack?? Regards Adam Loving The Duchess The Defender 110 TD5 XS My Defender story - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic64005.html |

![]() Click image to enlarge I’ve chopped my rack to fit a roof tent I’m going to find some brackets to join the part I cut off back on for when tent is not mounted Think that’s the best way to use genuine rack for a roof tent |

We've got an air tent. I can set up the 6 man tent in 15 min upon arrival at a campsite solo. Three main arches are inflated, all interior dividers are already in place. Slide one pole in for the porch and all done. The blackout bedrooms are amazing, no more bright sunshine waking us or the kids up at silly o'clock

Watching, I’m also wondering if a maggi would work without butchering the rack.

TBH you'd probably be better selling that rack and looking for something more like a front runner / flat dog type rack for a roof tent.

Bit more research last night shows the small Maggi will fit, measurements show the height of the bottom case is 80mm and the height of the top rail of the expedition rack is 110mm... looking at how they work, I don’t see this being a show stopper
http://www.autohome-official.com/en/produc...li-tecnici Also the tent box has a similar setup and appears cheaper https://www.tent-box.com/uk/ At present I don’t see why these wouldn’t work given that the ladder will be able to be used against the rack and not the case of the roof tent |

With the small Maggi’s you always have to put the ladder against the rack anyway as they are too narrow, so tent is set inward. Maggi’s are fantastic tents. I wouldn’t have anything else, if I went back to tents.

Loving that setup, and the rack is very similar to expedition one.

We have fitted a small maggiolina tent to that sort of rack - fiddly but worked.

if you want a hard shell go maggiolina - -doesn't flap about in high wind and therefore quiet inside. the wind up version is probably more robust than the airtop gas struts. (I have a maggiolina)
if you want more rack space then go gordigear --superbly made and all parts replaceable (see their video) (I had a hannibal, then had a large gordigear explorer plus, and will be buying another (smaller) gordigear. you may need to loose some of your rack side rails though! 110 Defender 300tdi & Penman trailer with ally exped top and roof tent |
