Anyone had success with warranty claims due to corrosion of
1. Roof rack - mine has pin holes through powder coat with visible rust. There are some bubbles too, at the welds. 2. Aluminium steering guard and side guard corrosion. Land Rover have approved warranty works for the rack and aluminium guards, on account of corrosion.
Given the comments on the poor quality of replacement racks, I'll have to give the replacement a good look over. It's a pity I couldn't get them to fit a Hannibal instead! The guards are now declared obsolete, I suppose since they were made by Mantec, the new company won't see these as a viable product to re-start manufacture and Land Rover probably doesn't have any stock since the last of the Adventures were sold. The local repairer has said they can lacquer/paint or powder coat these to in effect, refinish them. What would be the best option? I'm a bit wary of powder coat in case of corrosion underneath, unseen. They're not all that bad, it's just cosmetic... Are there any intentional holes in the roof rack frame?
I'm just wondering if a good blast of Dinitrol into the inside of the tubing might help in preventing corrosion from the inside out. Given the reported quality issues, it might even be worth considering drilling a small unobtrusive hole into each tubing section to blast in some rust preventative. |

Hi doublea, I've got the Adventurer side sills for my 90 from Mantec. I've got them sandblasted with very fine material and anodized by a company which is specialized on this. They do that for Audi and BMW cars normally, so it should last.
I have it for 2 years now - and also 2 winters with lots of salt - and they still look good. If it's starting to get worse, they can do it again. Regards Tom |

I’ve got the same corrosion issues with the rock sliders and sump guard on my 2015 Adventure edition. Starting to look a bit grotty. Anyone know of any specialists in the UK that can refinish them? Is galvanising an option?

You can't galvanise aluminium, I'm afraid. I think the best finish would be to have them anodised. Either that or paint, but only if properly prepared. It turned out the side protection is no longer available from JLR, but the front is, probably because it's a part common to both 90 and 110 and perhaps most likely to suffer impact damage.
JLR agreed to have mine anodised, but after treatment the finish was poor, most likely as they were not prepared properly. I doubt either the bodyshop or anodiser bead blasted them. So the bodyshop painted them silver and they look great, for the moment. Post anodising Click image to enlarge The racks were replaced with new ones and look pretty good. I ran about in the 110 without the rack for a few weeks but it just didn't look like an Adventure, so it's back on again.
