Looks like a Nissan Terrano or Ford Maverick. Going to be such a disappointment

For me it is much like a Kia Soul on steroids.

But I bet it won't come with a 7 year Kia warranty Laughing

As more details are emerging, I have no regrets at all about buying the Jeep Wrangler instead of waiting for the Defender.

A small discovery will be good; the only thing we didn't like about the one we borrowed for 3 weeks was that it was too big.

However it won't be a like for like replacement for the Defender, but then it was never going to be.

The Discovery 5 was not a like for like replacement for the Discovery 4 and left a lot of people disappointed with the direction the design had gone. I think the Defender will be a better replacement for the D4 it won't be the perfect replacement for the Defender. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

Hi Discomog,

Yes, I bought one a couple of months ago to replace my Defender 110 2.2 XS Station Wagon and Skoda Superb 4x4 estate.
Its a 2.2 diesel 4 door Rubicon.

Over the moon with it so far. I bought it with 2000 miles on the clock from the Jeep dealers in Oxford. On the drive home to Yorkshire it did 42 MPG at motorway speeds. Around home on short journeys, I'm getting 27 MPG.

8 speed auto, 2WD/4WD/4WD locked high , 4WD locked low transfer box. Front & rear locking diffs and electric front anti roll bar disconnect. Integrated roll cage with removable hard top and doors. Decent entertainment system, quiet on the road, comfy driving position. Reasonable leg room for rear passengers.

Ultimately it isn't quite as robust as a Defender, but perfectly adequate for my needs and I hope a great deal more reliable.

It'll be interesting to see if the new Defender is any more reliable than the ones we are driving around in. I hope the new Defender's ride is better than the D5 which is far too soft and wooly for me. After having had a D3 and two D4's a friend of mine has just swapped his recently acquired D5 because of the handling, plus his wife's OCD was playing up every time she looked at the rear number plate. Defender 90XS SW

Hi PCM, I guess time will tell.

After buying the Wrangler and then reading all the tales of woe on the USA Wrangler JL forum, I am thinking that Wrangler ownership could be very similar to Defender ownership!!

That being said, we've had two high mileage 4 litre TJ Wranglers in the past and both were completely reliable.
My dad had a 4 litre Cherokee and that behaved itself apart from an aircon condenser failure.
And our sailing club had a couple of knackered cherokees for hauling rescue boats around. They got real abuse and regular dunking in the lake to well above the door bottoms. They lasted longer than any of the other "scrappers" we use.

The new Jeep is jam packed with electronics which I suspect will be the Achilles heel longer term. Hopefully though, any gremlins will show themselves within the 5 year warranty window.

So that’s confirmed it for me.

My next new “Defender” is a New Jimny and a 12 month old VW T6 4 motion. My older 110 can do the heaviest towing, the 204PS VW can do the rest.

It’s a shame but after my first SIII at age 17 and owning and driving new and used from across the range I can’t see me ever buying a new Land Rover/Range Rover again. (I think my cutoff is 2004/05 based on the troubles I had with vehicles after then)

I know someone who has seen the new defender (they have a connection with JLR) they have said it looks like a Suzuki Jimmy, the launch price will start between 38k to 42k they have been told, but they believe it will be nearer the 42k and they have been involved with landrover forever 40 years, it was due by February this year to have been place with mountain rescue and RNLI etc for testing, dealerships would have been able to place customer orders in September 2019 but this now won’t happen. The 90 equivalent will only be available with the smaller engine option.
This information comes from a very reliable source. 2015 HT XS 90

I drove past the loal Jeep dealers in Swindon on Friday.

There's a SWB rubicon parked out the front... looked pretty good IMO.

Watching youtube stuff of Moab and other suck off road events in the US, they're pretty agile.

Surely can't be any worse than a LR product for reliability or bodywork corrosion! Rolling with laughter

I think the official reveal must be imminent. Every time I look on Facebook there are new photos of the disguised cars in the U.K., Germany, US and Andorra. They are everywhere! 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS
