I have a TD5 10 engine and would like to fit a blanking EGR blanking kit. I have read it was possible to get one with an outlet to go to a boost gauge. As I progress through the mods and upgrades I want to do, a turbo gauge may be one of them so it seemed a good idea to go for a EGR kit with a take off. Trouble is the only ones I can find don't have this.
Any suggestions or recommendations?  Mike

Going to sound like an idiot here, but can't you just put a t-junction in one of the hoses (like the one to the wastegate) and attach the gauge there? Should all be the same pressure after all...

Fitted that one above on mine, good quality bit of kit, all went on no trouble at all.

I ordered an EGR blanking unit with a turbo nipple from "EGR Delete" and it now on and running.
Although I have no affiliation with the Ebay seller I feel I'd like to mention they offer a super item with next day delivery. Instructions provided are clear and simple. What more could you ask for? One thing I didn't think about, although I had some in the garage is gasket sealant for the mating surfaces. So remember to check you have some before you start! Currently the situation is that your vehicle should fail if you have interfered with any of the factory-fitted emissions equipment, so a decat or EGR removal will be a failure. However it will only fail if the tester notices, and presently there are no emissions test run on diesels which are capable of detecting the removal or deletion of either the EGR or the cat. The tester is not allowed to remove covers etc as apart of the test, and may not be an expert on the particular vehicle, so there is a reasonable probability that your vehicle will pass simply because the tester can't see or doesn't notice.
There are however two other considerations which you may want to bear in mind. Firstly, whether or not the MOT tester notices, to use a vehicle on the road which has the factory-fitted emissions interfered with is now illegal, so technically if you have removed a FF cat or EGR, or simply run a map with the EGR deleted you are committing an offence. It is an offence which is unlikely to be detected, though. Secondly, if you are stopped for a VOSA check and your vehicle is decatted or has had the EGR removed, then it is overwhelmingly likely that this will be detected and you will get (a) a fine and (b) a prohibition notice. Whilst it is fairly unlikely that you will be stopped for a VOSA check if you use your Defender as a "Chelsea Tractor" type SUV, if you have the "working truck" look, and especially if you are towing a big IW trailer, then it becomes very likely that you will be pulled sooner or later. (If you have the trailer on the back, you'd better have a good answer to the tachograph question too)! |

Maybe, but that is the way it is.
It seems inevitable to me that as the anti-diesel, anti-car, and general anti-fun movement gathers pace, those of us who don't wear hemp underwear, eat lentils, and drive ridiculously small electric cars that look like funfair refugees, will be subject to increasing scrutiny and face the kind of inquisition traditionally reserved for murderers and child-molesters*. I suspect that life will become increasingly difficult for people with decats and EGR-deletions. *You have only to look at the constant flood of "Police Interceptors" type programmes on the box now to see that if you are stopped when speeding you are viewed in much the same way as a killer who's been apprehended on his way to commit a murder. We really seem to be losing all sense of proportion! |
