Watch when you lock it. Are any of the lock buttons slow to go down? If yes that’s your problem.

That sounds very much like a sticky mechanism, i.e. it tries to lock but meets resistance and so doesn't completely engage. You might get away with lubricating the latch mechanism with a decent penetrating oil but if that doesn't work then you'll need to remove the door card and look at the linkages. Darren

Had this problem with a 5 door. It was a broken wire going into the driver's door.
I had a the "sticking" problem too, i.e. one of the push buttons would not go down. All of the other doors would lock. The alarm only went off if I opened the door with the sticking button. So from that I would say your problem is a broken wire.
All of the wires are in a sleeve. Any luck the brake will be between the door and the footwell side. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

If it is not either of the simple fixes above it will be the "door actuator". This is what pushes the mechanism that gets the buttons to go down. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I took both door cards off checked the wires on both doors and checked the mechanism on the door lock seems to be free, but took it apart and spray WD40 on it to clean it.
I have notices that in the history it has had a new driver door actuator and passenger door lock mechanism which was last year.
Could the passenger side actuator be the problem

Thanks for you replies

Regard Will

Yep could well be. Take the door card off and press lock and see if things move smoothly. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Old thread, but I've had an issue with one locking mechanism on mine. It's on a door where I previously repaired the broken wiring between B pillar and the door.

The door lock button will go down when the central locking is activated fine but won't pop all the way up when you open the vehicle.

I also have the alarm (BBUS) sound when I start the vehicle when the weather's cold, so was wondering whether my battery doesn't have enough amps at start up (it's 6 years old) to move a stiff mechanism. The other doors open fine, although the rear door's actuator is slow and whines a little.

Is my battery the problem?

In my experience of the same symptoms was that the actuator in the door had become lazy, and a new one sorted it.
