you got to wait pal, Thank tony blair and his mates for doing away with the 20 year old classic tax, So we all have to wait till the car is 40years old. I have looked at Pumas as a replacement, but the tax is far to much for me to justify it. When you can pick up the same motors for less tax etc. Plus I am trying to put cash away for a gaff too. Work it out as a proportion of the cost of running the vehicle for the year and it’ll make you feel better.

Which 2.4’s aren’t in the £500 band? Commercial ones?

N1 Commercial which often includes PU's and HT's like mine, regardless of size.
Mind you the same bracket the councils are after ripping off too. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

In the coming years I think we're likely to see road tax rise for all diesel and petrol vehicles that aren't up to certain emission standards.
This is the easiest way for the government to 'encourage' drivers to move to cleaner engines or EVs. I'd love to be proven wrong on this. |

It’s not just the 2.4 that is £540 per year, there are some 2.5’s too

2.4 DCPU and DCHCPU are N1 as well.
Low emission vehicles including hybrids and EVs will face the biggest tax hikes because the country's economy won't work unless RFL revenue is maintained. Eventually EVs will cost as much as diesels. |

The high road tax is annoying but in the money drain that is Defender ownership barely a bump in the road.

I'm unfortunately caught in this trap with my 56 plate 110 TD5 Station Wagon. Despite the cost of tax I still purchased it over lower tax models I looked at based on the overall condition. I pay the tax via the monthly direct debit which makes it feel a little less of a hit.
Overall it just has to be accepted and the difference in my eyes is relative to the amount that can easily be spent on maintenance. Hence as said in the scheme of overall running and maintenance costs is lost. |
