What a night mare!! My dad did a classic, He changed the clutch on his defender which didn't need doing ( had a new one in already) then he replaces the master cylinder, but never bothered to adjust the pedal up, he then decided to change the nuts on the adjusters on the cylinder, to nylock nuts. he said that the spring on the foot pedal to the bulkhead adjusts the pedal anyway. How wrong was he! With in less than a 1000 miles he cooked the clutch and bearing. The heat was that intense it distorted the clutch pressure plate, and put heat fractures on the clutch plate itself. One expensive lesson that was! Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |

Great looking truck that Adam!
Procta - Sounds like a right balls up mate! I was just rushing to get the seats in, had a quick look, thought I'd miss the tank then went for it. Another lesson learned! |

Finally got the winch guard removed after a few hours of slow cutting with a hacksaw blade! My own fault for rushing to remove bolts, grinding them off and them falling and getting stuck.
I've taken a few more bits and bobs off to prepare for the removal of the bulkhead but have decided to go for a new galv bulkhead instead to save on time. Priority this weekend is to sort a space for the new chassis. Richards have said it'll be ready to pick up at the end of Feb but I seem to have amassed a huge collection of crap that I need to get rid of first! |

Tell me about it Clayton! Been so busy with work, I'm just not prepared.
Had a bit of time yesterday so whipped off the brake servo, air filter and and its hoses, started removing the loom then spent a couple of hours peeling off the Silent Coat soundproofing that I'd stuck on the seat box. I think it's gonna be dry today so I'm clearing out a barn to use as a temporary paint shop/storage for chassis. |
