He's the only one worth watching on Top Gear. John

Who James May - he was rumoured to be leaving a couple of years ago I missed it for a couple of years and it's funny to see how they have aged but the format is STILL the same, it's getting a bit tired now. I wonder how long they will keep it going until they change it and get new presenters in! Last edited by Zagato on 9th Jun 2011 5:37pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Yep - James May. He is a decent presenter - all his stuff is watchable.
Clarkson has gone from being a decent journo with the balls to say what he thought to being an egotistical - and Hammond is going the same way but with more poncy hair and whiter teeth. John http://www.hampshire4x4response.co.uk 2011 Tdci 110 CSW XS |

James May, watchable?! He has to be the worst presenter on television. Totally talentless.

Matter of opinion I guess - I find his style better than the other two personally. John

He's a good writer and fairly decent - less of a schoolboy showman than the other two. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

I cant stand any of them to be honest. They've become parodies of themselves as the show became successful. Too scripted, too puerile, too set up. I can't watch it anymore. |

you've hit the nail right on the head BigMike.
I used to love Top Gear when it was about cars. Now its just three late middle aged blokes having silly competitive, expensive adventures with the odd Supercar test drive thrown in. The Beeb have hit on a sucessful formula and are simultaneously caning it at licence payers' expense whilst aiming at the lowest common denominator - just like ITV did years back. And Richard Hammond's mid life crisis hairstyles. Come on man who are you kidding! Its sad really. All the ingredients are there for an excellent, informative and entertaining car show and in the interests of lucrative export to foreign TV networks the BBC have turned it into garbage |

But the non car geek public prefers the entertainment side - Top Gear is HUGE. Can no one see why? Look at most of the truly successful TV programs - usually entertainment well over content.
Most people that moan about TG are a bit geeky, don't really get out much and cannot see the "big picture." It's good entertainment with a bit of car stuff chucked in. And because it's so big, they get the best cars first. Why would the BBC want to change such a successful formula to pander to the whining minority? Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion. |

I totally see the commercial reasons why they have kept it like this, but not liking it does not make me geeky, nor does it mean i need to get out more
I presume you are a huge fan of X factor? After all, why should ITV pander do the whining minority? |

I despise all reality TV. In fact I hardly watch any television at all; I just know what works. Occasionally it results in something good, usually it's mind numbingly pants.
Come on though Mike, you need to take yourself far less seriously. As a relatively new member to this forum, I have quickly formed a few images of some members. You are a rather grumpy old man type character with a strong dose of geekyness but worth listening to as you know your stuff. You also find me very irritating; not the first tbh Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion. |
