Wiring help please
Hi All,

Today I fitted a pair of led spots using a loom I bought of eBay. Everything works as it should, but I want the lights to come on with my main beam, but have a dash switch to isolate the lights.

I haves searched the forum for info, but can’t get exactly what I need so would appreciate some help.

Main issue is that the harness I bought has a sealed box containing a relay and pcb and no access to add additional wires.

From the sealed box I have a fused + which I have connected directly to the battery and a negative I have earthed to the body. I then have feeds to the spots. Final output from the sealed box is three wires to an illuminated switch.

So, if I cannot get access to the box containing the relay, what is the best way of connecting the main beam line?

Thanks

Is the switch lit permanently as you have connected the control box to a permanent live?

I am thinking you could break the fused + feed to the box and route it through a standard 30 Amp relay which is triggered by a low current feed from the main beam circuit.
The relay would kick in when the main beam is switched on, and the switch from the LED controller box would then act as your isolator.

You can pick up 12V automotive relays with base holders and wiring tails for next to nothing on fleebay.

You would lose the switch lighting doing this, unless you figured out which of the three switch wires provides the lighting feed.
This feed could then be tapped into the dashboard lighting feed.
Probably better anyway, otherwise the switch will be lit all the time, even with the ignition switched off.

To be road legal spot lights are what are known as optional headlights. As such the spotlights should have light function R marked on the lens and wired through the main beam switch so they switch off simultaneously with main beam.

Without seeing the wiring diagram supplied with the wiring loom it can be a bit of a guessing game.

To be road legal you will need a positive feed from the main beam switch to the illuminated switch so that when main beam goes to dip the spots switch off.

Thanks all for your kind advice, however I still need a little more help.

Lights are now installed and working as they should via a single illuminated rocker switch which is only Illuminated when lights are switched on. I have wired them up exactly as the instructions provided by the loom. Sadly no relay pin outs.

Whilst I had the dash out I spliced into the blue/white trace high beam feed. Next job is to work out how to replace the current rocker switch with a relay energised by the high beam feed. I also want to use a standard Land Rover driving lamp switch as kindly posted by Dorsetsmith.

Any help much appreciated.

I suspect your mystery box is actually a relay but the diagram posted by dorsetsmith above tells you exactly how to wire in a standard relay and a LR driving lamp switch. Darren
